This page will explain how to navigating around the site. Here are the contents:

Header

Along the very top of every page is the header, which contains a few different elements. First is the top menu and contains links to the most visited pages on the site. Some links contain more drop down menus; meaning when you hover over them with your cursor a sub menu drops down.

To the right are the subscribe links for the posts and comments RSS (more on those later).

Directly below those is the search bar. Type your search term here and press return/enter and the results will be displayed. On the left on the search bar is the logo. This is also a link back to the home page.

Under that are links to all the posts on the site. This menu is split into the different categories and sub-categories and work like the top menu.

O the far right are two icons. The first is for the RSS post feed and the second is for the Planetphillip Twitter page.

Sidebar

The sidebar contains links and information about the site. It is more dynamic than other parts of the site and therefore new sections appear and other ones disappear. Examples of the things you will find incude: The Weekly Poll Question, Popular Searches, Site Supporters, the Tag Cloud and Membership links.

The sidebar also contains various ways to contact me and find me on other websites.

Content Area

AT the top of the content area is the featured Posts section. This section displays maps and mods that are very interesting. This section is here so that other posts, don’t push the best maps and mods off the index page.

Below this are 15 excerpts in chronological order of various posts. Most posts have a header image. If the post is a map or mod you will notice the relevant game logo on the left. It will also display a short introduction about the map or mod. If it’s not a map or mod it may have a header image depending on the category. Clicking the title or header images will take you to the full post.

There will also be the number of comments made on that post. This is a link and clicking this will take you to the first comment.

At the bottom of the content section are the page navigation links. Each “page” displays 15 posts.

The Footer

This currently contains the copyright, the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions links..

Some Concepts Explained

Pages and Posts
,em>Pages, like the one you are reading now, are more for reference. They are not the main content of the site. Posts are the real content. They include the maps and mods, plus all my artiles and poll questions.

Categories and Tags
The site uses two main organization concepts. The first is called categories. Each page is categorized into at least one category (Some may have more but that’s quite rare). These categories generally separate the games from other content.

For example, if you want to find all maps and mods that work with Half-Life 2: Epsiode Two, you would us e the menu under the logo. Hover (don’t click, unless you want to see EVERY map or mod listed on the site!) over the Single Player Maps and Mods and allow the dropdown menu to appear, then use your cursor to click the HL2: Ep2 link. This will display all the maps and mods that work with Episode Two.

The second concept is called tags. A tag is a keyword that is only associated with maps and mods and help describe the type of content within the map or mod.

For example, imagine you want to see all the maps and mods that contains a particualr weapon; the Crossbow. You would look in the sidebar under Tag Cloud and click that link. The links are listed in alphabetical order and the larger the link the more maps and mods have that tag associated with them..

For more information please visit the Content Guide and the Tag Guide.

Searching

As well as being able to find content through the categories and tags, a user can of course search. You can simply type your search term and press enter/return on your keyboard or clikc the magnifying glass on the screen.

Getting the most from your searches may be important to you and for more information please visit the Search Guide.

RSS Feeds

RSS Feed can really make your life easier. I highly recommend you use the RSS Feeds that are availeb from the site and to fully understand the benefits and which feeds are available please visit the RSS Feed Guide.
