If you are returning to the site after an extended break, finding the latest maps, mods, poll questions etc is very easy, but finding out what changes have been made or new features have been added to the site is much harder.

That’s why I created this page.

I will update this page with the changes I make to the site. Please note that older updates may no longer be relevant and links may not exist.

To receive updates on the changes to the site please subscribe to my Twitter page.

Please feel free to provide feedback on any of the updates or new features added; your views are important to me.

Feedback should be sent via email.

May 2010
  • 03 May 2010
I’ve uploaded my first Gameplay Teaser Video on Enthalpy. I hope to add a video to most new maps and mods, but it really depends on its size. Anything too small won’t get one.

  • 07 February 2010

  • 06 February 2010
Created the Real Theme category, to help find real themes that could be used for mods. Whilst adding the right posts I noticed that most have their images missing. I’ll fix that ASAP.

    Deployed the new colour scheme.
  • 08 December 2009
Added 6 more Visual tags: Alyx, Barney, Dog, Hopper Mines, Laser Tripmines and Rollermines. It is taking a while but I am getting there. I am also in the process of removing the syndicated review tags. Nobody continues to add new reviews, so I will just let it die.
  • 06 December 2009
Deployed the New Recommendation Image System.
November 2009
  • 30 November 2009
Added a Sitemap and linked to it from the footer.

  • 24 November 2009
Thanks to Kalkin, I have removed the old, broken code that a previous plugin made and replaced it with BlockQuote code. This means that old quotes now appear as they should. Thanks to Kalkin for excellent code and great support.
  • 24 November 2009
I have finally got the image layout working for a new feature that displays the screenshot in a slightly more appealling way. I will only use it for the larger mods. An exammple can be seen on the Neuromancer page.

I have also added a Format Comments section in all posts, just above the text area for commenters to style their comments.
  • 14 November 2009
Made all the excerpt images fit the themes width. This is one of the issues that will take a while to fix. I may run an SQL query to find and repalce images sizes in the excerpt section. It will make some images look crazy but the overall scan may be better.
  • 08 November 2009
Forum has a new matching theme.
  • 07 November 2009
Made the new theme live – some love it, some hate it. Stay tuned for an update on the colour scheme.
July 2009 – October 2009

I took a break from updating this page but from November 2009 I started again.

June 2009
  • 15 June 2009
I have removed the GetStatisfaction Feedback widget from the site. I loved it but it’s rarely used and people can email me if they want to provide feedback. My site is not big enough for something like that.
  • 15 June 2009
Tag results now display as easy-to-read list not the excerpts. Also the RSS Feed for each tag is now displayed.
  • 15 June 2009

  • 15 June 2009
Increased the size of the images in Modwalls to completely fit the post width.
  • 14 June 2009
I added RSS Feed links to specific games in the sidebar. Once my lsitings go back to alphabetcial, it will be the perfect way to view recent additions in chronological order.
  • 14 June 2009
I added the Current Poll Question in the sidebar. It won’;t display when you on the Poll Question post. I have now bullied William to add my weekly Poll Question to Podacst17.
  • 13 June 2009
The TAGS are now in a dropdown list making it really easy to find maps and mods with specific content.
  • 12 June 2009
The header menu has been removed becasue it stopped the screenshot galleries from working and also had issues in Safari. All the links that were in the header menu are now in the sidebar, plus a few more
  • 12 June 2009
I now use Twitter. It’s a great system for posting little details about the site. I’ll keep my personal notes to a minimum. I’ll post links to mini-gmaes, films etc on Twitter instead of on my forum.
  • 12 June 2009
I have made sure that all the Hall Of Fame entries had the “Hall Of Fame” tags, making them easy to find.
  • 08 June 2009
I have iIntroduced a new Flash screenshot sldieshow system on the site. It’s a little more involved uploading the images but the work required to postmaps and mods has been reduced. I know some people don’t have Flash but I wanted something that was easy to use and had full screen capabilities. Please try out the full screen effect, it’s really cool.
  • 03 June 2009
I have started using the new theme. It’s not finished yet but something had gone wrong with the old one and I thought it was time for a change. The new theme should be faster and make it easier for me to add items to the sidebar.
May 2009
  • 30 May 2009
PDF Walkthroughs – All the walkthrough posts have kindly been converted into PDF documents by Gilfrarry (huge thanks to him). I have therefore deleted the actual posts themselves and the category, and linked to the PDf files directly in the map or mod itself. I have also added a PDF Walkthrough tag and added that to each map or mod with a walkthrough, making it easy to find maps and mods with walkthroughs. The Walkthrough menu at the tops lists the same maps and mods as before but uses the tag instead of a category. This keeps the site better organised. Using PDF documents allows readers to either view online or download them and print them easily.
  • 30 May 2009
I’ve started to add Important Messages to posts. This is to clearly highlight information. An example can be seen here: Calamity.
  • 30 May 2009
All the Categories, Search, and Archives now list every post, with no pagnation.
  • 30 May 2009
The Chronological listings stopped working with the last update of WordPress. I have replaced them with simple year listings, under the ARCHIVES menu at the top of the page. I accept it’s not perfect but at least you can now review the posts in chronological order.
  • 25 May 2009
Lots of plugins removed to make the site faster. I won’t list them here but some functioanlity has been lost but in retrospect I don’t believe it matters.
  • 27 May 2009
All the Categories now list posts by titles, rather than by date.
  • 17 May 2009
I now have personalized recommendation images. I have always believed that 5 recommendation images were too many but enough PP readers convinced me to add them. However, I realized that it wouldn’t be hard for me to use just 3. Luke therefore kindly created the ones you will see me using from now on. PP readers are not allowed to use them.
  • 15 May 2009
I have added + Problems with these servers? to the download section. Clicking this link will open a little text area linking to the PlanetPhillip Feedback at Get Satisfaction.
  • 10 May 2009
I have added Quick Tags to the comment area. These allow all uses to easily add bold, italic, blockquote, links and code styling to comments. If used properly they shopuld add some nice styling to posts, for example headers. Give them a try!
  • 06 May 2009
Due to a conflict with an upgrade I have removed the subscribe to comments option for each post. I have emailed everybody who had subscriptions and detailed the reasons. As an alternative I have now included an RSS feed for each post in the ABOUT section of each post. This menas you can subscribe to the comments via RSS, which is better for everybody. I will be completely removing the feature at the end of May, readers currently subscribed will continue to receive updates until then.
  • 06 May 2009
I have removed the option to quote text from earlier comments. The comments that have them should still have the styling but new quotes are not allowed. I did this because the plugin is not working correctly with the latest version of WordPress. The new them will have the option of replying to comments directly and will be threaded.
  • 06 May 2009
I have merged many of the sub-forums into main forum categories. This is to simplify its use. No threads have been lost.
  • 03 May 2009
Updates to this page will now also be posted as comments. This will allow reader the chance to see the updates via RSS or even by the email subscription.
  • 01 May 2009
I completely reworked the Hall Of Fame and Mod Of The year 2008. Instead of being outside the main site, it is now part of it. This means that there’s no fancy scrolling but it also means that comments are allowed and all browsers can see it. In addition I have made all the mods (with the exception of Get a Life) available in 1 download.
  • 01 May 2009
I have edited the dropdown menu for Features. I removed the tour link because I have removed the tours until I create a new one for the new theme. I also removed the link to the spreadsheet, since I haven’t been updating it.
April 2009
  • 14 April 2009
I split the modwall into years and made them normal posts, menaing readers can comment on them and I can update them really easily. I also edited the header menu to link to the category, so it shows both yearsas a text link.
  • 08 April 2009
I started to upload maps and mods to my PP hosting account and allow direct PP downloads. I won’t do this for the larger or more popular maps and mods until 3 months after their publication. That should ensure it doesn’t put too much stress on my hosting account. Wouldn’t wanna get suspended would we?
March 2009
  • 30 March 2009
I have removed the Quake 4, Doom 3, Doom 3 ROE, System Shock 2, Chaser and Prey mods from the site. My only online source of downloads, Filecloud, closes 31 March 2009 and the file links will die. My focus for the site is HL based games from now on. Even RtCW may eventually be removed if I can find an alternative host.
  • 25 March 2009
I have added a little Hall Of Fame icon to the Modwall images. This makes it easy find the best mods of that year. I am thinking of extending it to the other icons. You can discuss the idea on the forum: Modwall Improvements: HOF Icons.
  • 16 March 2009
I added a fantastic Feedback system courtesy of Get Satisfaction. Each page features a FEEDBACK tab on the right side that when clicked opens a lightbox window for readers to ask questions, report problems, suggest ideas and praise the site. You can discuss the system on this Forum Thread.
  • 14 March 2009
The Recommendation Images have been updated by Luke Lanchester. You can discuss them on this Forum Thread.
February 2009
January 2009
  • 31 January 2009
Made the Highest Rated page only display text titles and links. This make it much easier to use.
  • 31 January 2009
The Start Playing link was giving errors again, so I made it point to the Dated Archives page instead.
  • 30 January 2009
Changed the way all the archives are displayed. In the past the Ep1 and Ep2 archives had the excerpts but it seemed harder to read, sue it looked nice but it needs to be easy to use. It should be faster too.
  • 30 January 2009
Removed the ability for readers to tag maps and mods. It was never used correctly and I always spent more time checking the tags than was worth it.
  • 30 January 2009
Removed the rating system. It was always being abused. Anonymous rating is never a good idea. At least with the Recommendation Images people have to sue their name and write something valid. The highest rated page is still available and I will make a Pre-2008 Hall Of Fame to replace it.
  • 24 January 2009
Removed the audio and video comments. Nobody used them and KI didn’t like the fact they were stored offsite instead of on the PP server.
  • 18 January 2009
Updated the sitemap. It’s now 99% finished, content wise.
  • 18 January 2009
In preparation for a new design/theme I have been reviewing all the posts in my blog section. I have deleted approximately 30 posts that do not really belong there. Some relate to the site itself, which now has its own section in the forum, and others were related to games that the site no longer covers. I also deleted the Save City posts since nobody ever downloaded them.
  • 15 January 2009
I have removed another section from the footer in an attempt to make the site seem cleaner. All the sections are in the new sitemap. The one missing is the poll, which I may or may not add to the sitemap.
  • 15 January 2009
I have removed the index banner. I have also added a small new image area in the header. This rotates images via a fade script. Each image links to a particular page/post.
  • 14 January 2009
I have reorganized the header menu links. I have removed a lot of links, including the Tags and the Site Help Center. Now only two items create dropdown menus and there are no sub menus.
  • 14 January 2009
I have updated the sitemap because the old one had stopped working due to me removing some folders in an effort to keep the site tidy and clean. The new version is 90% complete.
  • 10 January 2009
I have updated the modwall and made everything on one page.
December 2008
  • 26 December 2008
I have added a new recommendation image. It’s called Wait For It! and is specifically designed for Beta, Demo and Unfinished maps and mods. I have yet to add it to the Recommendation Images Guide.
  • 06 December 2008
I have added the ability to add audio and video comments. You only need a modern browser with Flash installed and a microphone and webcam. For more details please visit the Commenting Guide.
November 2008
  • 04 November 2008
I have added a new recommendation image. It’s called Personal Favorite (American English spelling because it’s shorter!). It can be added to maps and mods that are your favorite. Enjoy.
  • 02 November 2008
Thanks to Nick, the Podcast 17 producer, I have finally implemented a dropdown select list for TAGS. YAH! This means that only the correct tag can now be added. No more removing Arabic tags, no more removing swear words and no more removing spelling mistakes. :)
  • 01 November 2008
I created a new Hall Of Fame recommendation image for me to use. it’s not available for readers to use and if somebody does I will just replace it with a Play It Now! image.
October 2008
  • 28 October 2008
Created a new footer section. Put the Recent Forum Threads section back and moved the Poll down to a new “Currently” section, along with details of the Hall Of Fame 2008 and my new joint project: Podcast17.com
  • 05 October 2008
Updated the Features Guide to include details of the Hall Of Fame.
  • 05 October 2008
Finally finished the Hall Of Fame 2008 and put it online. In addition I created a new banner for the index page to promote the idea.
September 2008
  • 28 September 2008
Created proper excerpt and header images for all the Half-Life 2, HL2: EP1 and HL2: Ep2 Highest Rated posts. I know they are not to everybody’s taste but they do provide more information than just a text list.
  • 27 September 2008
Redesigned the way paged comments are displayed. I added a title, explanation text and then reformatted page links. It’s not perfect but it’s much better. See The Citizen for an example.
  • 27 September 2008
Added the Free Game and Guest Pass Giveaway to the Features Guide and create a frontpage banner for it.
  • 26 September 2008
Redesigned the highest Rated section, along with changing the requirements for rating maps and mods. Only registered members can now rate. I put the link to the page back in the header navigation menu.
  • 26 September 2008
I implemented the random banner section on the frontpage. Each visit should show a different banner. I am creating new banners all the time to highlight various features on the site.
  • 24 September 2008
Released the Spreadsheet of the 2008 publications. Added the link to the Start Playing >> Other Ways To Browse menu and created a new frontpage banner for the Spreadsheet and made it slightly shorter.
  • 21 September 2008
Reduced the levels of the footer to two sections. Whilst this won’t make the frontpage load much faster it does make it feel a little cleaner. I still need to produce a really good sitemap. I’ll probably go the Google way and just have a white page with blue links. Simple and effective.
  • 19 September 2008
I created a new Game and Guest Pass Giveaway subforum on the forum to allow PP readers a place to offer free games and passes to other PP readers.
  • 16 September 2008
Created a new display style for all four of the Episode One and Two listings. These display the title of the map or mod, the main banner image, the brief description, date published or updated and the number of comments.
  • 12 September 2008
Split the Episode One and Two categories into alphabetical and chronological listings.
  • 09 September 2008
Added the Modwalls section. Displays a graphical representation of the mods released in a given year. Currently only covers 2008. I may back date it when I have time.
  • Added the keywords banner to replace the tour banner. I’ve made it smaller. I plan another 2 or 3 of these and when the next one is finished I will randomly rotate them.
  • 06 September 2008
Added the keywords (tags) to the dropdown navigation menu at the very top of the page. MAN! That took a long time to do.
  • 02 September 2008
Added the dropdown navigation menu at the very top of the page. Hopefully this will make finding things easier.
August 2008
  • Cut the footer section down to a smaller size and created a new page called the Sitemap. This still needs lots of work. I’ll add a proper link to the new navigation menu when it’s better.
  • Added the slideshow tour and created the new In You Face banner in the middle of the Index page.
