I thought I'd break the ice in the HL section so here we go:

If Valve remade the whole of HL1 in the GoldSrc (original) engine, what do you think they'd change?

Personally, I think that they would change Xen. It was my least favourite level in the game, and got quite boring sometimes. Maybe they could replace it with a sorta Xen-style gravity puzzle back at Black Mesa?

However, Xen was quite an important part of the game, (It ended there, didn't it?), so maybe there would be something else they could modify without taking away from the storyline.
Personally I liked it the way it was for the most part.I just wish they would make a HL 1.5 to fill in the gap better between 1 and 2
I loved everything in HL, but my brother gave up in Xen. I think he's nuts to go all the way through the game only to stop yards from the finishing line. But I guess it's a measure of how much he hated Xen.
I loved the concept of Xen in Opposing force but I liked more the landscape of Blueshift, if I was to remake this sequence I would use both.

Imagine, just after Gonarch, Gordon finds the teleporter gun from OP, and he's able to teleport back to early stages of the game with the Race X presence. Those would be mini combat stages like the Nihilant teleporter-attack, but at will.

Oh man...
Total redesign of 'On A Rail', God that level were so tedious and far too long.

Yeah, that was one of my least favourites.

I'd prefer some sorta "tram" puzzle, like the start of HL:-

I mean, find a way to get into the tram, find a way to get it to go where you need it to (control room, for example)...

I really liked the tram ride. But only the first time, after that it suxs but thats why they put a save point right after.
I really enjoy the tram ride, specially because you start seeing the marines fighting the vortigaunts.
I actually enjoyed both Xen and "On A Rail", even though I know I'm in the minority on those issues. Actually, I find myself in the minority on some HL2 issues as well.

- I'm in the minority when I don't find the rebel buddies in Anticitizen One in HL2 annoying, even though they get in the way, and that I actually go out of my way to save them.

- I'm the minority in that I actually continue to use the Pistol all the way to the end of the game, along with all the other, more powerful weapons, and I don't think it needs any improvement.

Matty, I love the pistol too. It sounds a bit weak and feeble when compared to, say, the pulse rifle, but for precision aiming and range it's hard to beat.

The rebels in Anticitizen One -- I enjoyed their company when I first played the game in 2005, but on a recent rerun I found them a hindrance.
