Playing a mod the other day (I’m naming no mods in this post) I discovered something that really annoys me, so much so that I quit out of the mod and haven’t been back to it since.
I’ve had a think and come up with my top seven things that make me want to ditch a mod almost instantly..
Don’t forget to add your own in the comments.
No idea how much health I have, can’t use batteries or chargers, can’t even see where I’m going cos I gots no torch…
I boot a map, while its loading I go make coffee, I come back and 20 zombies are hacking away at me. Do not like this at all!
I’m not epileptic but even so after playing an area with no light source other than a flashing or flickering light I can feel my brain twitching. Playing a dark area with the flashlight can be challenging and even annoying but playing in these kinds of nightmare discos just leaves me fumbling about like a drunkard looking for his keys…
I’ve played loads of games that had the alarm function built in but all of them gave the player the ability to turn the damn thing off themselves! A never ending siren will earn you an instant rage quit from me!
Walking through a map, only to have the floor open up underneath me so that I can fall to my death when I had no chance to avoid it…
THIS IS NOT TOMB RAIDER! (and Tomb Raider is rubbish!) RAGE QUITTTTTT!
Oh cool a cutscene intro… wow.. went to a lot of trouble over this… looks great… ok now another cutscene… oh and another… (5 mins later)… Can I play the game now please??? Please???
I would bet that badly placed or non-existent autosaves are the most common reason why a player would quit a mod and not go back for a very long time. An autosave point that causes the me to have to repeat the last 10 mins of gameplay or a particularly tedious bit of gameplay generally makes me yell at the screen.
What makes you ditch a mod and not look back?
