Funny starting (you’ll see why, it’s special but I don’t want to spoil), but I recommend it if you are seaching a worth-time Oppfor map. There are betters. 3/5

I highly agree with you Ezequielhl, I uninstalled this mod after the third map, I just couldn’t stand the design. But still, I don’t finished it, so don’t take this comment so seriously.

I know it’s been awhile since anyone has commented on this mappack, but I’m sure one of our mapmakers out there can help me. I get a FATAL ERROR; ModForName: models/detpack.mdl not found. This comes when opfor7 trys to load and crashes to desktop. Tried to load manually, same thing. Opfor8 loads, but without weapons, vest(suit), etc. Can anyone help. Yes, the info mentioned in the ERROR is installed or wouldn,t be able to play this far. Emailed author but unsure if he can help. Other than this problem I’ll say Play It Now.

This mod is really good. Lots of action, Lots of different enemies, lots of set piece battles. Decent puzzles, not too hard.
Play on skill 3, there’s lots of health, power weapons and ammo.
Like a condensed version of Opfor. Great end fight. Can’t see anything wrong with the design (post 4). Didn’t get the problem in post 5. Avoid taking friends onto the next map, you don’t need them. That did make the game crash. One elevator door needs to be approached slowly, otherwise it gets stuck on your foot!
There may be better mods, but there are many more worse.
It was slightly tedious moving all the files from the pak into the correct places, as an automatic unpak will overwrite your maps folder, among others.
Recommended.

when i go to download it says pak.pak and readme-ast????? what do i do

You need Pak Explorer. This is a program that unpacks .pak files. The file name is PakExpl.exe. Do a Google for it.
The readme-ast is a text file. Double click to read it. It will tell you where to put the map files once you have unpacked them with Pak Explorer.
It doen’t rell you where to put the rest of the files in the pak. So here goes.
When you unpack the pak file, you will have:-
1. A Maps folder. Copy the .bsp files to Half-Life/gearbox/maps. Inside the Maps folder there is a Graphs folder. Copy all the .nod and .nrp files to Half-Life/gearbox/maps/graphs
2. A models folder. Copy detpack.mdl to Half-Life/gearbox/models
3. A sound folder. Inside is two folders and a file. Copy all three to Half-Life/gearbox/sound
4. A sprites folder. Copy kungfu.spr to Half-Life/gearbox/sprites
5. A file called titles.txt. Rename the titles.txt that is already in the gearbox folder to something like oldtitles.txt.
Copy your new titles.txt to Half-Life/gearbox
If you’re using Windows Explorer to do this, you need to go to Tools – Folder Options – View and uncheck ‘Hide extensions for known file types’
Hope this helps you to become an expert in file management!

If your using steam put the pack in your opposing force\gearbox folder. If you have no pak files there rename it to pak0.pak ,if you have a pak0 name it pak1 or if you have a pak 0 and a pak 1 name it pak2.
start opposing forces and in the console type
map opfor1
Tested and working.Mine is pak2.pak

The download links for A Soldiers Tale as well as Dark Operations and Retaliation are broken. Does anyone know of any other links for these three mappacks? I want to replay them for nostalgia. Thanks!

Is there a place to report broken links or is the comment page fine?

My apologies for the delay, there should now be a working download listed in the post above.

I dont like this mod, the amount of ammo and health is very low, You need to be very carefull with your ammo because if you dont, you won’t have anything. There are to much enemy’s and lots of puzzles are buggy, this is not my style of mapping. There are much better mods than this one like Nuclear winter.
