PlanetPhillip is focused on single player maps and mods for the Half-Life series of single player first person shooter games. However, it also lists many maps and mods for a few other games.

In addition the site contains my game ideas and mod stories, commentary on gaming topics, weekly poll questions, interviews with mod authors and more.

I have created a section called the Site Help Center where readers can find detailed information about all aspects of the site and how best to use it.

I started the site around 2004. In many ways it was a slow evolution of a few different websites connected to PC gaming I had created earlier. In November 2007 I chose to focus my efforts on the Half-Life series and deleted many maps for other games, such as Quake 1 and 2, Unreal, Serious Sam, Alien Vs Predator 2. It was clear to me I just didn’t have enough time to do everything properly.

I’m just a regular guy, born in the mid sixties who loves the combination of story, interaction and objective. I enjoy most reflex and thought-based shooting games but feel that the Half-Life series is best available.

There are plenty of great shooters available but the Half-Life series is special. It combines (pun intended!) the science fiction I love with almost perfect gameplay and story.

The attention to detail that Valve has for all its products is one that allows millions of players to enjoy the game on many levels. From simple “run and shoot” to a more deeper analysis.

The balance between fun and detail is also a major advantage the game has over other shooters.

The last point, which is due to the above points, is the plethora of single player maps and mods that are available, which of course is the focus of the site!

Whilst the site is mostly all my own work many people have contributed to its content and therefore its modest success. From the readers who post comments to the dedicated few who regularly send images and more information about the mods. The site would be nothing without its readers & contributors and I thank you all.

• To constantly improve the information about each map or mod, via new features and display methods.
• To provide syndicated reviews of the maps and mods from other respected websites.

The above list is really just the main objectives and is in constant development.

The site uses WordPress as a simple content management system which has allowed me to focus on the content and not on the technicalities of creating a website. It also has allowed me to add more functionality through the numerous plugins created by the WP community. Thanks go to all the coders who make WP what it is today.

I run a survey once every December and this allows readers to give their opinion on a wide range of topics related to the site. However, I particularly like to hear from new visitors to the site and if you are a new visitor I would be very grateful if you could take the New Visitors Survey 2008.
