It was written in the ancient scrolls of Xian that, during the last Crelat of Xen time, a portal would be opened between two universes and a being would cross the void and cause the second re-birth of Nihilanth, and all Xen would be drained of their lifeblood, their knowledge. And that, in this time, the Xen race would be oppressed by the armies from the far side of the portal.
It was also written that once the portal was opened, a human known as “Freeman” would cross the galactic transverse into Xen space, and set free the three sacred Telnorps, the guardians of the gate who had been captured from the ancient enemies of the Xen, the Zan from the Theldran galaxy.

And so it was that the prophecy came to pass, and the weakened Xen were powerless to resist an onslaught from the Zan. In the dawn of the first Ashaan of Xen time, the elders of the high council sanctioned an uneasy alliance with the perpetrators of the impending disaster, the Human race, in order to restore the sacred telnorps, and thus sealing the Zan gateway… forever.
The ambassador of the Alien Investigation Unit on earth was called upon to “redeem” the situation by employing the use of the very individual who had inadvertently caused the situation…

I absolutely loved this mod. Glad to see it make its way to PlanetPhillip
18th October 2005
This is a very nice mod. Its been probably 3 or 4 years since I played through it, but I recall enjoying it. I recommend playing it alone for the amusement park levels.
This team also made another pack, a Western-themed SP/MP mod called “Wanted”. Its available at http://www.maverickdev.com/wantedhl/. I don’t think it’s listed here, but there is an old Quake 2 demo of it.
19th November 2005
Maverickdev does very good games, i like them.
22nd December 2005
I very much enjoyed this mod on a recent playthrough. Took me a while to update all the models though – the ones included are Low-Res and I find it impossible to use them nowadays. Oh well, Ce La Vie.
The levels are, for the most part, pretty well done, with the exception of one or two ‘where the hell do I go now?’ moments during the third act. Otherwise it’s all pretty damn good. One thing I did particularly like was battery-powered lights that shut off if you picked up the battery. Very clever.
There’s some new models and voices. The new models are a Russian Barney and some reskinned Grunts. Nothing special, but they’re nice all the same. The voices are mostly imitations of Barney and the G-Man and are pretty good. And there’s some new tunes in the mix as well – you’ll notice them in Half-Park!
It’s a good mod, but there’s a few minor problems. First is te above-mentioned ‘Where the hell..?’ problem that does occasionally creep up. Secondly, it does get a tad hard in places. Finally, in the original version of this mod you accidentally get zapped to the first level of Quake II, but in the ‘Absolute’ version you get sent to Stone Henge instead! Bah! In all, it’s a good play. Give it a go.
Maverick does do some rather good mods, I’ll concede. Their other big mod was Wanted!, which was originally for Quake II but got ported over to Half-Life. I remember playing the Q2 demo and not beong all that impressed… the HL one’s much better. Try it out if you can stomach the 100Mb + download.

How do I get this thing installed? I _really_ want to try it, but i use Steam, can’t remember where I left my install disc for regular halflife, and the “search for Halflife folder” part drives it berserk. x.x;
11th February 2006
simply find it manually
should be C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\your e-mail\half-life
Put all those files in a fresh folder there
hope this helps
14th February 2006
this is a very good mod but the park was the best part but they chold have made the park a bit bigger
15th February 2006
Ok, no newbie here…I ought to know better but I can’t get the dang thing installed. I run the exe file and it tries to install it on my data storage drive in a Half Life folder I created to store HL zip files. So I sent it to C:\program files\valve\steam\steamaps\mysteamusername\half life
When I open up steam, it’s not there. So I created a folder in that same Half Life dir and called it redemption and moved everything to there, but it still does not show up in Steam as a third party game. This happens a lot in fact to most mods I install. Why do some mods install and other not?Even when I use the standard pathway?
18th February 2006
I figured out the installation problem. Snce I installed Half Life 2, the path for installing HL 1 mods has changed to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\myusername\Half Life.
I don’t know why this works, but it does, for all HL 1 mods now.
5th March 2006
hey im upto the carnival party and im lost as hell i cant find the dam fairs wheel please hell??
5th March 2006
I didnt like this so much. I’d rather play Sven Co-Op or something other coop online play.
7th March 2006
ray, go through the spining lizzies or whatever area…when you get to the other side the wheel is there
and also, i cant figure out how to get through gecetellies or whatever. I got into the sewer but the ladder broke and theres no way out including the small secret passage at the bottom…andyone know how to get out?
7th March 2006
I’m not familiar with that word, gecetellies…can you describe it, then maybe I can help. I also remember the same thing, being stuck in the sewers. It’s been a bit since I played this one, but It seems that I finally found a valve somewhere that raised the water level so I could get through a high exit. Not sure, but that seems like what happened. Let me know.
8th March 2006
the guys name was spelled something right that…the place after the carnival. It sounds like it is spelled *Juice-a-telly* though. maybe that will help. I think it was spelled *Geussetelli*. This is the same guy with the third one of those things you have to retrieve for Gman.
15th March 2006
heyzors, you need to go where the ladder gets broken, and under the water you will see a hole in the wall. Swim in to the hole, and after a bit you will see a hole at the roof. Press your ‘use’ key to open it.
16th April 2006
Ah well, one of the few very good large old SP-Mods for HL. Played this ages ago & enjoyed
playing it. At the time Redemption was new some
criticism was heared about the amusement park.
BTW: The beta of Redemption beamed u into an
early Quake 2 Map instead of Stonehenge at the
beginning of the game.
28th April 2006
Large? I’ve completed Redemption at 20 min. (with some tricks). But is it able to get the Redemption where you get beamed to the Q2 map instead of Stonehenge?
3rd May 2006
I doubt you’ll find the old version anywhere Zhouy. I remember playing that beta with the Q2 map ages ago. It was a rather funny surprise, but when I played the latest version of the mod (this version), they’ve changed it for some reason. Copyright issues I guess.
1st July 2006
Actually, I think I have the first version of this mod from an old cover disc. I’ll have a look. And if you’re very, very nice, I’ll include the hi-res models I use as well.
The earlier version wasn’t a beta, as some people seem to think, it was just the first version of the mod. The updated a few sections of it – the mentioned Stonhenge/Quake2 part and a slightly different stage on Xen at the end – but for the most part is was the same.
3rd October 2006
nice mod, but i cant get out of the cave on the last map. i have version 2.1 so the patch isnt needed. anyone have any ideas. thanks..
4th October 2006
i got it. i didnt check the locker. hehe.
was great, look forward to mavericks other ones.
1st December 2006
I was searching through all of my downloaded SP packs for HL, and I could not find this great one. I just love this! The Russian Barney’s voice is really hilarius.
5th January 2007
The bad: Long intro, Gman’s voice, the ending is… well, unrewarding.
The good: The best designed levels out there, long gameplay, original story.
The other: Very challenging at first, you’ll learn to hate black ops in this one. Non-linear gameplay at the complex. Like three battery charges in the whole game.
6th March 2007
Pretty good, russian barney was a crackup!
Intro is boring but the gameplay is interesting
6th March 2007
well i downloaded it, and it says i need wow.exe or something, which i know as a virus/spyware…not sure what to do, just wondering how to install it
6th March 2007
well to be exact it says after i intall, missing 16-bit system module- please re-install the following module to your system 32 directory: WOWEXE.EXE
6th April 2007
I love this mod. It can be confusing at parts (and also I was being stupid), but it’s really fun. Especially the amusement park level.
16th June 2007
There’s a walkthrough available.
27th June 2007
Afro-Dude, what’s bad with gman’s voice ? I think it really sounds like gman in the original Half-Life.
5th July 2007
i am confused on installing this mod. i have done what the other post on this site have done but it doesn’t seem to work. I download it from 3d downloads. Extract it to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\your e-mail\half-life
And it creates a file called halfliferedempt
and the stuff is in their. though their is a file called source mod in my steamapps file i thought that i should but the stuff in their maybe since i wasnt having any luck. And no it didnt work. But my other question is wut does it mean when it says to reload steam. Reinstall it, updated it on internet? Wut?
I am probably the most retard person on earth because i dont where or wut iam doing. I am not that dumb when it comes computers, i build them.
Anyways just asking for some help
6th July 2007
When you put a mod in you need to restart steam. Some people say reload.Anyay I’d make sure the path was right and that it did make a folder and not drop a bunch of files.
EDIT: It also goes into your game list as Redemption not Absolute Redemption
6th July 2007
OK I remember this mod now.It never installs right. On mine it goes to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\user\counter-strike\
Look just after your username but before your half life folder for an extra folder. My path wasnt right and I knew it didne go in counter strike so I searched and sure enough they were just before game folders
6th July 2007
Do you have to have cs to play it. I just downloaded steam. (But i found out u dont need steam) Anyway i created a folder in C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Half-Life\Valve\Modfolder\Redempt
and the files were in their, nothing works thought (i did this because other posts on other sites have done this also). But now wut iam doing is taking the some of the mod’s files and put them in the valve folder, others i have to add a number to so their not the same. Then i go back to the half-life main directory and load the hlds console to see if it is loading and works.
I load the game, the screen is different, the name is redemption, but the problem is that when u go start a new game it stops and says Invalid dll version.
I am downloading a patch for redempt, but is that going to fix it or do i have to do some more fine tuning.
6th July 2007
This mod creates its own folder it just doesnt go to the right place with its installer. The mods folder must be placed in the half life directory inorder to work. Not in valve or source mods folders just the half life folder.
The folder it creates is called half-liferedempt
6th July 2007
Ok i reinstalled everything to fix my mess i made, did wut u said by putting the folder in half main directory, started the game and its is still half-life. Now i have installed mods before like chaos for ut04- cool mod got to get it- and when u were done you had to go to properties on the shortcut and add something after the exe.’ in the target box, and then it would load the mod. Why can’t it be that simple, because their has to be something to load the dll’s of redemption, and all the other stuff.
Unless i am missing something from a file, something thats supposed to be their that isn’t
6th July 2007
you put the folder called half-liferedempt
into the half-life folder right?
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\username\half-life
You dont make a folder it makes its own.Make sure its there.Restart steam it should be in the menu under “redemption”
Second since you just installed steam you do have half-life installed right?
6th July 2007
hey, hey, i got, sorry for being such an ass, glad their are people in the world that can tolerate people like me, sometimes i to shut my self up and listen to somebody who has experience and knows what their doing. Thx again andyb, your life saver. If i could i’d buy u a beer. Ha!
6th July 2007
Small problem, but still big. I load Redemption and start a new game but it says it can’t load
C:\Program Files\Valve\Half-Life\Half-Liferedempt\cl_dlls\
client.dll
What does this mean? Can it be fixed(and yes i have already reinstalled everything)
7th July 2007
nobody seems to have my problem, or know what to do. I have done everything correct. Files are in the right place and everything. But every time i try to start a game it cannot load the client.dll
What is wrong with it. A little technical assistance please!!
7th July 2007
Are you talking about Half-Life itself or Redemption?
The SourceMods folder is only for Mods for the Source engine, Half-Life 1 use the GoldSource engine.
Perhaps that version is corrupt. Have you tried the version on the Filecloud Server?
Please remember that this ISN’T the official website for this mod. Nobody here is under any obligation to help anybody else. They do so to be helpful.
I am away until Sunday night but on Monday I will make a video of how to install it for you.
7th July 2007
Easy fix, go to your Half-Life folder, then the redempt folder, delete cl_dll folder. Fixed.
9th July 2007
I got it installed, so i know what iam doing their, unlike Nick- no offense- and yes i am talking bout redempt it self. I did download it again from filecloud. I know this isnt the “real” place to be for asking for help, but u people actually respond, when i post. So Thx
9th July 2007
I just tried what u said, and it says Invalid Dll Version.
9th July 2007
“C:\Program Files\Valve\Half-Life\HALFLIFEredempt\cl_dlls\
client.dll”
Just saw ur previous post, may depend of the name of the folder. Try rename halfliferedempt to redempt.
9th July 2007
Sorry for double-post, but have you installed it to right place ? Shouldn’t the path to your Half-Life folder look something like:
“C:\Program Files\Valve\steam\steamapps\(youraccount)\Half-Life”
11th July 2007
It probably should, but steam sucks big @#$%$, i I have tried to activate it on steam, but it says my cd key is invalid and my game is invalid, when its not. Piece of @#$% it u ask me. Unless u know of activation code i could get. Its probably why i wont work. I just give up then.
11th July 2007
You have three choices:
1. Reset your cd-key with this form: http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=70
2. Buy new copy of hl
3. Give up
Since this mod require Half-Life installed as all other mods to hl.
10th August 2007
I finally did get to play this mod, and i will say it is probably the most stupid ass thing to ever happen to the series, a waist of my life trying to get it to work.
4th November 2007
This is a good mod but i found the first mission to be the most difficult, everything from there on was pretty easy. Which is the opposite of what you want from a mod. If like me you have problems killing assassins then the only way past the first mission is to save EVERY contact grenade you come across and only use them against the assassins. Never died so many times as in the temple section of this mod.
5th November 2007
Loooong introduction, but I suppose it’s better than a boring tram ride. It’s terribly hard at the beginning and at the end.
Another gripe is that the objectives are to release these creatures named ‘Telnorps’. The problem here is that these things are tiny as hell, so it isn’t very obvious where they are all the time. I was stuck at one part, and I actually had to go a map backwards just so I could smash a dome to release one.
Plus, the complex level had me scratching my head more than a few times… You have almost no sense of direction, and it’s almost *too* open-ended to work.
However, if you overlook all these frustrations, you’ll find a sincerely cool mod, with the sweet spot right in the centre. The second mission is where all the creativity shines and the difficulty is just right. It may be worth the price of admission itself… Ha, ha, ha. You’ll get it if you…
Whoever voiced these characters get a medal!
