You probably have heard about this already but it’s possible to play Alien Swarm in First Person. It’s missing the ceiling and a view of the weapons but it’s still possible to play. Here’s a guide on PC Gamer.

There’s also a mod in development to turn it into a proper first person version over on ModDB (don’t worry about the missing S in the title and link, it still works).
Alien Wave Beta has been released over on ModDB. It’s pretty good but suffers from a lack of direction, making it hard to understand where you need to go. I also found that the Vortigaunts firing didn’t make a sound if you were too far away. They still hit and killed you though. I managed to get my buggy to pretty much everywhere, so that needs to be worked on. I looked for to the finished release.

This video was completely new to me, but you may have heard of it. It’s another fanfilm, using Half-Life as its inspiration. Made by a Russian teenager and it looks pretty cool. Do you know of any other films I should be covering?

Beta Source is a mod trying to re-create the leaked Half-Life 2 in the EP2 engine. I’m not taking bets on whether they ever release sit but fingers crossed.
Maciko has created a remix of the Black Mesa Source theme. Pretty nice, I say.
My Aperture Labs has started a new mapping contest. I’m a couple of weeks late with this news but you still have over a month to submit an entry. Get Portal Mapping!

I’m not a big fan of SMOD but that’s probably because it doesn’t seem to come with new maps. Anyway, it has a huge following and this SMOD WIki may help you get into it.

I don’t think so. “What’s in the Box?” was a Dutch production, this one is Russian. It is very similar in style and effects, however.

You can also install the Half Life font and use that. Works nicely in Photoshop.
Find the font in your steam folder \Steam\steamapps\username\half-life 2\hl2\resource\halflife2.ttf

Very entertaining Phillip. This must be a lot of work and I thank you for it.
I particulary liked the Alyx video collection. Especially the samus metroid Zero suit.

Alien Wave is definitely worth a play and it’s quite hard.
