Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Hello and welcome to another community round up. Lots of mod updates this week, so, find a comfortable chair and a pack of snacks and get reading!

Please remember, I am not responsible for the content of other websites.

Don’t forget to send me your news by email and your URL if you want a credit link.

The making of Flesh

The Making of Flesh consists of four compressed folders; notes, playtest, images and sound clips. AT the time of writing, Thursday 20:30PM only 7 other people have downloaded the file, which is a shame because it may make interesting reading for other developers.

Half-Life Sandpit

Half-Life Sandpit is a mod similar to Garry’s Mod for Source, or at least it’s trying to be on a much more humble scale. It describes itself as a Sandbox mod. I haven’t tried it myself, but then again I don’t relly enjoy that kind of gameplay anyway.

Blue Shift Extreme

To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what this is. I think it’s a model pack, but it says that you should have the High-Definition pack as well, so I’m not sure any more.

Black Mesa Source

Will be released BEFORE the end of 2010, at least according to Nate D Great3 on their forums.

Human Error Coop Update

There’s a new mode called Alyx, where she will try to hide Eli from the other three players, while they try to find and kill him to win.

Blue Portals

A nice update article talking mostly about the two new mechanics: The Waterwalls and The High Powered Fan. Definitely looking forward to this one.

Some Portal beta chambers

Just a couple of Portal beta chambers. I haven’t played them because I rarely play betas anymore. Let me know what you think of the them.

Story of Madness “on hold”

An interesting SP mod called The Story of Madness has been put on hold. Looks like the author wants to improve their skills. Gives me an idea for another article.

The Ecstasy Of Dusk for Ep2

A forum thread about a map made for a Polish Map Battle. The map will never be released, which is such a shame. Looks fantastic to me.

11-Day Level Design Challenge 2 – Rural Summer

World Of level Design is running an 11-day design challenge. looks fun, get mapping.

Claustrophobia for EP2

Claustrophobia is a newly announced mod set in space. After waking up on a spaceship alone and with cybernetic implants you must face the aliens that caused your ship to malfunction and killed the crew. Sounds a little cliched to me, but let’s hope they release it eventually.

Portal Awakening

Portal Awakening is a Portal mod with ambition. Their writer has taken too many happy pills because they promise Memorable Maps, Petrifying Puzzles, Eccentric Easters Eggs, Charismatic Characters and a Powerful, Emotional and Enganging Storyline and let’s not forget that you are a sweepingly talentful architect! Aah, the youth of today with their funny speak!

Hangover

“In this single player level for Half-Life 2, Gordon Freeman (the player) finds himself on the sea shore with a terrible hangover. He is surrounded by empty beer bottles a few Headcrab corpses and a bicycle. Does not remember anything about how he got there or what happened there and the night before. Sets off to find out and as usual gets into a bunch of “fun” activities along the way.” Interesting start, let’s see what happens. The screenshot used in the title image is from this mod, BTW.

HL 1997

OMG, the “let’s make a mod from beta stuff” has finally reached Half-Life. I think it’s crazy but good luck to them.

Project Terminal

Another beta remake. Apparently there will be an alpha released soon. Why bother? Just work hard until you have something serious then create a proper beta testing phase.

Residual Life

A Half-life mod. Anybody tried the other betas?

1187 August Update

The 1187 teams continues to work hard and this update shows that. I just can’t get the feeling that all the real world place seem so plasticy. That’s the only thing I don’t like.

The Infected

Loving the look of this. It’s old news (May) but It’s new to me. Looking good.

Factum Solus

Fearlezz, the developer of this mod, continues to tease us with false release dates. I know he is working hard, so expect something soon.

Azure Sheep Brasil

What the heck is this? Even Google couldn’t make sense of it. Can you help? I am assuming it’s a translate of the brilliant Azure Sheep mod into Portuguese but maybe it’s more.

The Lost City

A newly announced SP mod. Not much to see yet.

Soldiers Adventures

SA is an Opposing Force mod, which looks pretty cool. Hopefully a pre-2011 release. Fingers crossed.

The Fourth Reich

TFR posted an update to their mod. Not sure if I am interested in this or not.

Black Mesa Source Alpha 6

Not sure I should be posting this but it’s out there already. The Alpha 6 has been made available. I recommend you ignore this and wait for the final version.

  1. I know a lot of people have become tired of waiting for Black Mesa, arguing that it’s a defunct concept anyway, but it’s my most eagerly awaited mod. 2010? Well, we can but hope.

    Blue Portals looks great too.

  2. Grey Acumen

    6th August 2010

I don’t really need these “around the community” things, but I like them. They allow me to use PlanetPhillip as a onestop for all my modding updates, while still keeping the focus on single player mods.

  3. Thanks Phillip.
I’ve been tracking a couple of those and paricularly like the look of 1187.
I played the demo what feels like years ago. Good to know it’s alive and well.

Prison Island and the Lost City look promising. When is a different matter though.

It’s pleasing to see that the HL2 modding community is alive and well if reduced in numbers.

  4. Hmm, hasn’t the BMS alpha 6 been out for ages? I’ve got alpha 5 and there’s an alpha 6 readme somewhere in there…

Oh well, doesn’t really matter. It’s mostly unfinished maps anyway.

  5. I’m really anti-beta ^^
