Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Hello and welcome to another community round up. A few new mods and some other stuff this week.

Please remember, I am not responsible for the content of other websites.

Don’t forget to send me your news by email and your URL if you want a credit link.

Some More Beta Mods

After last week’s poll question, I thought you might find these mods interesting:

  • Dark Atmosphere
  • The Axel Project
  • Half-Life Beta Project
  • Project 9
    • All found via the ever excellent Combine Overwiki.

      Half-Life Music CD

After finally publsihing the Half-Life Nostalgia Project sub site, BattleGrunt, a PP reader, tracked down a CD from some images posted. You can find it on iTunes.

      It Exists!

Visit Black Mesa Research Facility. I even submitted an employment application. You even get a reply!

      Funnel like game mechanic

Here’s a video from Fearlezz, maker of Factum Solus for Portal, demonstrating his Portal 1 version of the Portal 2 funnel mechanic. Looks awesome to me.

      Wilson Chronicles Official Teaser

The Eaglesg Studio (Yes, that last G is supposed to be there) have released a teaser video for their upcoming Wilson Chronicles mod. The trailer is well produced except for that completely out of place song. Compeltely ruins the whole thing. Shame. This is a perfect example of why singing should NEVER EVER be in a mod during gameplay. You’ll need to download it becasue it High Definition.

Anyway, the video is apparently from the demo, so there will be something to play for those impatient souls. I say, don’t waste time on a demo, just focus on the full release.

It’s also a shame their website of out of date. Get to it boys!

      Real Portals!

Want to make a real portal for your house? Well, The King 91, show you how, on the Swedish website Game Reactor. I would think you just need to angle the mirror, slightly away from the wall, to look a little more authentic. Please don’t try jumping through them!

      Tail

Tail is a short surreal adventure game that explores the moral decisions of the player by invoking particular emotions through interesting back-story and plot revealed by a series of curious events and discoveries….
It’s very early days yet but it’s nice to see mods like this in production. This week’s ATC header image comes from this mod. More details on its ModDB profile.

      Portal Map Editor

Now this looks mighty interesting. A simple “copy and paste style” map editor for Portal. I haven’t had a chance to try it and I know it’s months old, but it’s new to me, so maybe you missed it too. Definitely worth a look over on ModDB.

Wanna be a novice monster huntrer? Here’s your chance

Embermoor looks fairly interesting. Plenty of team positions available, include scritp writer, which is kinda neat.

      Ivan’s Not so secrets

Ivan’s Secrets is slowly developing into a fantastic looking mods, well worth following. This August update shows a lot of work being done. Keep up the good work guys!

      Hazard Team (Decay: Source)

Hazard Team (Decay: Source) is new to me and it’s looking good. I suppose it’s too much to hope I’ll be able to play it on my own.

      New Portal 2 Presentation

HalfLife2.net is reporting that Portal 2 is coming to GamesCom. Of course, 99.99999% of readers won’t be there, but you an be sure we’ll see the new footage.

      Half-Life Barnacle Sculpture

How cool is this Half-Life barnacle sculpture? Only 150 US Dollars!

      Video Game Faces

Jasper just sent this to me, moments before I published. It’s a few photgrpahs of people, mostly children, when playing video games. I am sure I look completely stupid. Telegraph.co.uk perhaps we should try taking some with our webcams?

      And finally this week.

The Resistance Bulletin – Special Report

Vic asked me if I minded him writing something along the lines of my City 17 Times articles and I was more than happy to agree. Here’s his first one: The Resistance Bulletin – Special Report. There’s plenty of other great stuff over on Lambda Generation.

Have a great weekend, and don’t forgot to listen live to Podcast17.

      1. Your quite late, Phillip. That Black Mesa site is an fan-made ARG (is that right?). There is a thread on Facepunch where this was discussed and someone even tried to make another ARG, although we only got his e-mail (dontrytoguess@hotmail.com or something, whatever). But it was quite fun.

        • Yes, I realize it’s just for fun. Do you honestly think I would have submitted an application otherwise? I was also pretty sure it was old but I doubt many of my readers visit FacePunch, so I thought I would open it up to a new audience.

      2. Just a small correction, Phillip. :)
There are sadly no open positions in the Embermoor team at the moment. It’s still my personal one-man-project until I have the scope of the game and all features planned out.

Anyway, many thanks for including it in the round up!

      3. That BMRF site is actually a fanmade Alternate Reality Game.

It was solved back in July, and now it’s restarted.

      4. I’m dying to play a decent mod and all I’ve seen is small maps, or bata multiplayer. And recently a bunch of portal mods. Was just wondering ,what is up with the Half-life 2 (ep1&2) moding community? Anything soon? Ineed my fix!
