I recommend this mod if you want to suffer the sadism of mappers, like in Half Quake.
A big Challenge with modificated weapons, modif. enemies and 2/5 mapping.

Alas–I follow the readme.txt installation instructions, and bloodbath doesn’t appear in my custom games list. This happens more often than not when I try to install mods. I have the latest patch, don’t have Steam installed…
does anyone have any suggestions?

The readme.txt in this mod is wrong. Follow the instructions of the Blood Bath.txt. Also, try the suggestions I left you for BlackOps if you still can’t get it running.

No problem installing – just put the bloodbath folder in your Sierra/Half-Life folder and add ‘-game bloodbath’ to your desktop shortcut. There are also 13 extra maps in the pack. These can be accessed by adding ‘+map mapname’ to the above shortcut. (Without the quotes). Look in the pack’s map folder for the extra map names. ie the ones not called bb1, bb2, bb3 etc.
This is a well written mod, although it doesn’t really flow logically, it’s a challenging bunch of episodes with fighting and puzzle solving mixed together. The beginning is a bit messy design-wise, and the first big area is slightly rough around the edges and there’s the obligatory ‘almost impossible’ jump. Once it gets going things get seriously enjoyable.
The set peices are truly original, with a modified scientist who wants to help you but… well see for yourself! When there’s a group of them around as you’re trying to escape, it becomes very tense, with much quick saving.
Monster skins and weapons have also been modified, the rapid fire rates have been increased, weapon sounds are improved and the magnum now has telescopic sights(!). There’s also an appearance from someone who looks like he’s from reservoir dogs!
Play on difficult and it will be!. About 2 hours play. Highly recommended.

Oops! My mistake. The extra maps are multiplayer base maps and as such, are not much use for single player. Duh.

I love these kinds of mods. The ones that have no storyline (well, you get rejected by “a totally hot girl” according to the ‘Blood Bath.txt’), but have plenty of fun situations to shoot or solve your way out of.
Blood Bath doesn’t waste any time, dropping you into a gigantic pool with only a crossbow to take on the murky waters below. It’s an abrupt and admittedly frustrating start, but once you get into the thick of things, you’ll be running and blasting your way to an exciting conclusion.
Modified and retextured NPCs keeps things feeling fresh. The author knows sure knows how to establish a tense atmosphere, too. You’ll be terrified to walk down a corridor full of boxes with “CAUTION” written all over them, while a shootout amongst destructible cubicles will leave you feeling like an action hero.
All of this leads to an exciting and explosive conclusion, and really, who *doesn’t* like large explosions?
Bare through the masochistic start and you’ll be faced with an absolutely stellar mod.

Good MOD but I am stuck! After comming down the elevator I am in a large room and the G-Man realeases a Giant Mother Spider Monster. She is spitting at me and spawning aliens. I can’t beat her! Any Advice???

Nevermind! Finished it, great MOD, wish it was longer!

The readme tells a unique story in a funny way and concludes with “you have to kill anyone” so additional storytelling won’t be necessary throughout the mod. But some sort of presence is felt, because most doors won’t open until you have killed everyone in sight. It’s like going from test to test, level to level while being observed and there’s no way you can run and gun through them. Also, you have to watch your health and ammo, cause you don’t know what might come next!
Rough start, I thought to myself, like many other mods, but mostly just start that way. Turns out, this one had a rough middle and ending, too.
SPOILER coming up: The part that shocked me, even though I think I’ve experienced it in another mod, was with the scientist poisoning me. “Our own kind, turning against us!” came in my head. Scary! And what are those scientists made of?! a grenade and 2 headshots barely get one!!
END SPOILER
New skins on Gman and slaves (btw: two clips and a half on a slave? highly unfair) and small weapons modifications (but just because it’s new, doesn’t mean I liked it, because the shotgun reacts kinda slow in shooting AND reloading and has a strong recoil; plus the pistol’s aim seemed a bit off).
Those jumps through the trip lasers are crazy, but fun.
And of course the ending had to be tough, also. A boss fight.
I do have one major complaint: I’ve spent 15 minutes in the second map trying to figure out what to do and found out by accident. SPOILER/HINT: I had to shoot that rock (?!) which I thought was there to help me jump on something or.. I don’t know! But giving the fact that there have been exploding rocks in (very few) other mods and this one even looked different, I think I’m the one to blame.
A small bug that I can think of: an elevator button is invisible. The mapping isn’t great, but sometimes that’s the last thing on your mind when fighting for your life. All I can say is it didn’t suck either because there are some well thought places from where you can avoid the heat and fight better (SPOILER/HINT: in the scene with many scientists, if you stand on the box in the center, the scientists won’t attack you).
Even though I played this with a little frustration and very much frowning (mostly due to high concentration), I very much enjoyed this map pack/mod.
This is one serious mod all the way. It makes you think that you’ve only been playing foolishly in the hl universe or
that the other mods are too easy and you have so much more to learn when it comes to skills, whether it’s in jumping, fighting, or even puzzle solving.
Some might not appreciate this, but I assure you there are many other mods out there way harder which make way less sense than this one and, of course, with a lot more bugs.
Play it now!
