This modification offers a multi-level side story of Gordon Freeman while en-route to City 17 via Highway 17 in the infamous buggy.

When Gordon’s buggy was taken by the Combine Dropship, some maps of combine outposts hidden in one of the buggy’s side compartments were lost. Gordon was immediately dispatched by Dr. Kleiner and Dr. Eli Vance to locate the buggy and return the missing maps.

Setting: The entire modification is set at night on a small, rocky island off the coast of City 17. Rugged terrain, abandon structures, and multiple combine outposts will make escaping this island hell more than just a walk in the park.

His plan: Gordon surrenders to the combine so he could be transported to the facility where the buggy was left for scrap. Upon his surrender, he found himself in a small prison facility on the rocky island, waiting for a visit from Dr. Wallace Breen who would read his sentence personally. A familiar face woke him from his deep sedation…

His mission: Locate the buggy and find a way to return to City 17 with the stolen maps.

Specifics

This is a fast paced and highly intense single-player modification for Half-Life 2.

Game Style: Lost Coast style in terms of an add-on mission

Game Time: Estimated 5-7 hours (first time through) depending on your skill level and difficulty setting

Chapters: There are 9 chapters with a total of 27 playable levels. Each chapter should take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete.

Difficulty: Very challenging — especially on Difficult mode.

System Requirements: Personally I have no problems running the mod (my system is average based on the Valve polls that have been published), but the poly count is high — there are a number of large open areas, so keep that in mind when configuring your settings before you run.

Installation Instructions:

If you have a previous Beta release you need to delete the folder before you install the new one.

1. Unzip the zip file into SourceMods (a folder called Offshore should be added)
2. Restart Steam. Offshore will show up in your game list.
3. You should see the new game in the your game list. Enjoy!

UNION is set in the aftermath of Freeman’s blow at Nova Prospekt. ANTLIONS have broken in and run amok, the Combine forces lay decimated, but an unlikely alliance is forged between a lone surviving PRISONER and an escaped VORTIGAUNT. If they are to break free they will have to rely on one another for help.

"Do Not Disturb" is an all custom made single player chapter (or mission) spanning two levels. The player once again becomes Gordon Freeman who, along with a group of rebels, is using an abandoned hotel as a hideout and temporary base of operations.

“Do Not Disturb” is an all custom made single player chapter (or mission) spanning two levels. The player once again becomes Gordon Freeman who, along with a group of rebels, is using an abandoned hotel as a hideout and temporary base of operations. The game begins when Gordon is notified that they were found and the hotel is being assaulted by metrocops. The goal is to get away, or more simply put: survive. One special feature of this mission is a part in a park area with stealth gameplay. You can hide and sneak through the bushes and the patrolling combine soldiers will have a hard time finding you.

Neuromancer is a Half-Life 2: Episode Two single player level where the player must travel between cyberspace and reality to of unlock new areas of the physical world.

Author’s Notes

“For this level I chose to focus on intuitive aspects of level design with an emphasis on puzzles. A designer faces many challenges while creating a level that is intuitive to the player. Each player has a unique way of solving a puzzle and associating the objects nearby with their surroundings. In Neuromancer, the player must use the data cubes to hack into cyberspace and decrypt barriers which unlock new areas of the physical world. The data cubes are a prime example of objects which the player must associate correctly in order to unlock new areas.

I wanted to work with cyberspace for a while and knew it would be a rewarding task to try and create two different environments and seamlessly tie them together to create a solid piece. From custom texture creation to detailed attention to the placement of assets, each area provided an artistic challenge during creation.”

“I am still beginner at Hammer SDK and this is my first single player map. I am showing what I have learned so far in Hammer SDK. I started it out nice and simple, however I wasn’t satisfied with my map, I kept coming back to put more details and redesign the map. End of the map i kind of lazy, because I got to excited and badly wanted to finish. It’s a small map it takes about less than 15 minutes to finish (if you know where everything is ) My goal is to make a map that is “fun” to play. I hope you guys enjoy my map. A playable map that is part of Robert Gee’s thesis project enbtitled The Right Way is the Wrong Way: Dead-End Theory in Level Design, which explores dead ends in games. I briefly referenced the work in another of Roberty’s levels called Dead-end Freeman: Reload.

Author’s Note

“My thesis project, completed at the Guildhall at SMU, examined the application and use of dead-ends for practical level design. Additionally it looked at several reward systems associated with dead-end areas and the effectiveness at different level design techniques to lead players into certain areas. This thesis includes a test level created using the Hammer editor in Half-Life 2: Episode 2. The choice of this editor was due primarily to its frequent use in other non-related projects and the large amount of online and offline support provided for troubleshooting.”

There are many routes you can find and take, maybe you want to roam through dirty tunnel, or have a little gunfight with the guards. The buildings on the map are based on those of real-life, such as Checkpoint Charlie and the death strip.”

Author’s Notes

” For this assignment, I was tasked with creating a level using an “out of the box” idea. With that in mind, I created a level where the player is made to feel as though the game were being played from the point of view of Lamarr, the headcrab. Being a headcrab (and a de-toothed one, at that), the player has no direct means of combat and must rely on the environment and some deception to prevail.

The player begins in Dr. Kleiner’s lab just before taking a routine trip to Black Mesa via teleporter. However, Lamarr is once again playing near the teleporter and falls onto the device just as it starts up. Not only does the player get to begin a new life as a headcrab, the teleporter error manages to rematerialize Gordon/Lamarr inside a Nova Prospekt bathroom.”So, the plan is real simple, Gordon. You and Crazy will charge in, grab some guns, and let us out of the cells. Once we’re out, well…we’ll figure it out from there. Talk to Crazy when you’re ready, he’s probably watching the zombies again. Good luck…we’re counting on you.”

Important Note

These maps can be used with Half-Life 2, Episode One or Episode Two. I have used the HL2 icon on the header images simply because I felt the install base is larger.

The file also contains four variations of the same map: Day, Night, Snow and Christmas.

Permission has been obtained from the author to host this file.

Installation Instructions
  • Copy bsp files into your Maps folder of the game of your choice.
  • Copy weapon_annabelle.txt file into the root folder of the game of your choice.
  • Launch your chosen game
  • Open the console and type map d4_assasinatdoc_v2.
  • Press enter/return or click the Submit button.
  • Play and Enjoy.
