“Dark Operations is a map for Opposing Force. It has several puzzles to make it more thinking oriented as well as being full of action. You will traverse and do battle in many different places: labs, offices, warehouses, underground areas, silos, and several outdoor areas. You will also encounter a large variety of enemies on your mission. When it seems like everyone wants you dead, you will find many ally grunts to aid you in your mission. You will also see many sequences in Dark Operations. Enjoy.”

“You had just been transfered to this unit . Being in the army was more boring then you had expected. At this new base, they had spent the last 2 days unloading crates from a place called “Black Mesa”. Crate carrying- how exciting!. thats why you jumped at the chance to go on a routine mapping mission. Anything to get away from home.

At the end of the mission, you were calling back to your unit for routine apache pickup….no response. Probably just a downed transmitter, looks like your gonna have to walk allll the way back. brings back memories of Bootcamp hikes…..
(If your wondering, Foothold is the term for when a military estabilishment is taken over by the enemy in a covert manner, and yes, for those other people – I DID get it off that episode of Stargate Sg-1).”

As Corporal Shepard, you are part of a platoon of marines supplying additional security at Monte del Oscuro (an astronomical research facility). Things never work smoothly as usual. Find a way to escape and lead your men to safety. There is a flashback to a Balkan Town to rescue a UN Representative from some warlords.

Finally, Ice, a massive set of levels set in Antarctica.   Something has been found in the ice and a number of foreign powers desire it.   After the little accident at Monte del Oscuro, you have been given a hardship posting. Defend the base against hostile forces and rescue the scientists!

Story

You Adrian Shephard, have tracked down some more evil scientists who are allies of the Black Ops. You were able to sneak into the lab unnoticed and have the element of surprise. Your mission is to eliminate all of the scientists and let none of them escape. Remember you are a grunt after all. It’s time to go postal once again.

Additional Notes

The spawned scientists will not be automatically afraid of you like the original scientists will be. They may even talk to you and follow you. They will also spawn as the same scientist, the type with glasses. This is an uncontrollable aspect of spawning scientists. It shouldn’t effect the fun of waxing them though.

About

“This level is a complete remake of my map Postal for Opposing Force. It’s bigger, has better design, and has more scientists. Like its predecessor, it’s designed to to be a stress reliever. It’s a healthy and effective way to release aggression and stress. I have included some scripted sequences and some breakable computers. When you have cleared the level, you can activate the on switch in the last room and scientists will continually spawn throughout most of the map. This will practically give you unlimited targets. To stop the spawning, activate the off switch. Enjoy.”

Installation

After you unzip the file, put ofpostal.bsp into your Sierra\Half-Life\gearbox\maps directory. Then put ofpostal.nod and ofpostal.nrp into your Sierra\Half-Life\valve\gearbox\graphs directory. Go into console mode and type “map ofpostal”. You can type “skill X” (X being 1=easy, 2=medium, 3=difficult) beforehand, if you want to change the difficulty setting.

About

In Ground Zero 1…
You are Gordan Freeman. On your quest to the Lambda Lab, you find another one of the Black Mesa’s nuclear weapon storage facilities. This one is different though, a rogue group of military has stormed the building, and plans to detonate the weapon to rid the Alien invasion. You, becoming aware of this, must deactivate the nuclear device to save the innocent Scientists, and to prevent the destruction of the Black Mesa’s vast amounts of data, research and information.

Now… the Fallout begins…

“Freeman escaped. The nuclear weapon was disabled, within
seconds of its destruction, and wouldn’t be able to be launched again until a new generator is placed and wired. Gordon suceeded, and is on route to the Lambda Complex. Why? Were not sure. More troops will be inserted in the area in moments. Our squad has been decimated, and only me, you, and a few others still survived after Gordons battle with us. Our squad, and Freeman bothknow this — Our squads mission was to destroy the base. We are traitors to our people, our country, our government and military for disobeying orders and trying to destroy the Black Mesa facility.”

“We will be killed by the new troops coming in if they find out what happened here. Me and you both know what to do now, kill the only witness of our rogue intentions — Gordon Freeman.” the Lieutenant said. “But…how? We have no idea where he is..” sighed Allen Morris, “Damnit Morris, there is no time for questions, we kill him, or they kill us. He was here about 30 minutes ago, load up, we are going to kill Gordon Freeman.”

“In the early 21st century the U.S. fight several anti-terrorist campaigns in the Middle East. Bickering in the world community over the morality of these campaigns eventually leads to the withdrawal of China and Russia from the U.N. Even NATO is divided and it soon becomes obvious that America’s only real support comes from Great Britain.

In 2009 the league of Arab nations invade and occupy Israel. The U.S. and Britain come to Israel’s defense but it is a struggle that will eventually be lost. China and Russia are supplying arms and troops to the invaders. Tactical nukes are used in the offensive marking the first time nuclear arms have been used in war since WW2. Six months later, India falls to Pakistan. The world is in a state of shock.

In 2010 Russia, China, Vietnam, North Korea, and the entire Middle East form the Eastern Alliance. They quickly expand into most of Europe, Asia and Africa. Since they possess a large nuclear arsenal plus most of the world’s oil supply, no countries, including the U.S. are in a position to oppose them. A cold war sets in that would last for 7 years

It is suspected that the Alliance, headed by Russia is working on cloaking technology. It is rumored that they have discovered a way to bend light, making it possible to render things invisible, such as troops, weapons and even missiles. Despite their best efforts, U.S. scientists are unable to crack this technology. This would prove extremely detrimental.

In January 2017 the Eastern Alliance launch an attack of cloaked nuclear missiles upon major cities and industry in North America. The U.S. is helpless as all but 2 of its retaliatory missiles are shot down. What’s left of the free world watches in horror as Eastern troops invade American shores in an attempt to occupy the country. Even though most of the command structure has been wiped out, the Americans aren’t just going to roll over. A fierce fight ensues that would last for months. This is where you come in. Corporal Adrian Shepherd, a soldier with grit and determination.”

Chapter 10.4

Dust on the lens was a prior culprit and it was believed that it was dust on the lens yet again when the infrared negatives showed ground anomolies. The region in question was southwest North America, specifically the northwest quadrant of New Mexico.

Satellite reconnaisance noticed objects spontaneously appearing on the desert sands in periodic intervals of 10.67 hours. The first object was a 1961 Buick Oldsmobile. It was hastily whisked away by Black Mesa technicians soon after its appearance. The vehicle was later followed by a striped basketball, a portable oven grill, and a small brown kitten (most likely a Calico).

Trans-teleportation was a hot-button topic during World War II, culminating in the bittersweet Philadelphia/Norfolk incident and the lesser-known Wilmington/Atlantis dilemma. The research being conducted at Black Mesa was highly illegal and scientifically dubious. But, not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, a decision was made to preserve Black Mesa and extract prime scientists.

The call was made for base infiltration and the exfiltration of one key scientist named G. Freeman. A marine squadron stationed in Wisconsin answered the call.

Author’s Note

“I was very impressed with the job done on Opposing Force. The new models were very well done and the “attitude” of the whole deal was spot on. But throughout the game I was hoping to see more squad-based, teamwork scenarios. These are supposed to be highly trained marines after all; working as a lone cowboy just seemed out of place. So Bootleg Squadrog is my attempt at team-based goodness. I am fascinated with organized military maneuvers, and the scripting system of Half-Life made squad implementation possible.”

Opposing Force Redux is a enhancement package for Opposing Force. It is designed to work with the new Steam Client provided by Valve. Opposing Force Redux enhances your Opposing Force installation beyond what was thought to be possible with the High Definition pack that shipped with Blue Shift.

Redux is a community project. It is non-profit and contains work from members of many communities. Such communities include Half Life Improvement Team, which provide invaluable support and a great source of custom Half Life content. However most of the work is done by the Team. The work in the pack may be edited and re-released so long as proper credit is given.

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half Life 1, 2 and 3

Redux is a complete visual and audio overhaul for Opposing Force. Containing new models, sounds, sprites and miscellaneous additions to immerse you into a new level of gameplay. Even the smallest of details have been reworked to give your now fancy ass gaming computer something to chew on. This is not a Source project/port. Nor is the gameplay altered in any way.

Currently in development, they have replaced near over 400 sounds, and 50 models and showing progress towards more. Redux takes advantage of every feature in the Half Life engine. From transparencies, chrome effects and additive textures used in ways thought to be outdated. Along with crisp new sound effects, high quality models which polygon counts are hardly never below 1,000 keep the always proud Opposing Force looking its best.

A small map that is out of proportion, the screenshots may demonstrate that. basically the ceiling is way too high. Gameplay is OK, but as with nearly all small maps it doesn’t particularly engage you. To finish you simply need to reach the end of a corridor.

Author’s Note

“The Bad Guys have taken over a building in a Generic American City, and they’ve kidnapped some Innocent Scientists and forced them to genetically engineer Evil Mutated Monsters as part of a fiendish plan for World Domination. But the creations have turned on their creators and escaped, and are running amok inside the building, in an orgy of Death and Destruction. It’s up to you, the Good Guys, to recapture the building, rescue the Innocent Scientists, and kill all the Bad Guys and Evil Mutated Monsters. (Actually it doesn’t really matter all that much about the scientists.)

You will be airlifted onto the top of the building by helicopter, along with a small squad of Elite US Marines who will be under your command. You must fight your way down to the genetics labs on the lower floors (A lot of skyscrapers have genetics labs on the lower floors, you know), where the Innocent Scientists are being held.

One of the members of your squad is a highly skilled engineer and systems analyst, trained by the NSA. You’ll need him to hack into the artificially intelligent central computer terminal (name of HAL), contained within the labs. Once the central computer has been compromised evil will be defeated. If he dies the mission will be terminated. His skills are needed in other, similar, hostage-scientists-in-mutant-infested-skyscraper situations as well, so he must not be allowed to die. The other two marines are expendable.

We have learned that your Evil Arch-Nemesis is in the building at this very moment so this could be your chance to finally bring him to justice, although it’s possible that he might just slip out of your clutches at the very last moment.
