Description

Life on the Earth is possible but not easy. Large cities are afflicted by poverty and suburbs are completely controlled by the local gangs. It is 44 years since the first colony has risen on the surface of the red planet - Mars. Chaser is an agent of a security agency who was badly hurt in a cover operation and partially lost his memory. He doesn’t know why the military commando wants to eliminate him, why he is on the black lists of several gangs, why people around him are dying, but he is determined to discover answers for those questions.

You become Chaser. That is the beginning of a journey full of incredible action. Imagine whistling bullets of the commando guns that hunt you. Chaos on the damaged space shuttle which is falling down while you are trying to find an escape module. Sounds of shots and smashing windows during the gang fights. Battlecry of mercenaries when you are trying to escape with their hostage. Tense atmosphere in the night operation in which you and the auxiliary paratroops are conquering a weapon depot. Creaking of massive steal structures and mechanisms during an assault of the transport ship in a deck. Fights at an orbital station and in the underground shafts on Mars where incautious shots can cause your death. The whole atmosphere is intensified with the effective flashbacks when forgotten memories come to Chaser’s mind.

PlanetPhillip Verdict

I really enjoyed playing this game, yes there were a few annoying bugs and the storyline and voice acting were bad but the gameplay was very good. The least you should do is download the demo and try it out.

I agree. Chaser was a fun game but not well received in the US. It reminded me, a little, of Mortyr in that the game was fun and re-playable but the voice acting was terrible and the storyline needed to be expanded. European game studios, especially the small ones, need to realize that the large North American market will be turned off if the voice acting is that bad, regardless of the other good aspects of the game (Serious Sam First Encounter being an exception but then again the multi-player Co-Op experience was exceptionally sweet).

I don’t think these small developers need to hire expensive voice talent like those used by the European developers of Max Payne 2 and Hitman 2 but they do need to find creative solutions.

The voice acting is often neglected. That reminds me I have a post to make about voice acting, I’ll try to write and post it later today, thanks for reminding me!

I thought the game was great. AI was a little simple, and models seemed a bit rushed in some areas. But, I didnt think the voice acting or cut-scenes are bad at all. I have played games with much worse voice acting. This game is gold compared to those. Such as Liquidator and Kreed. OMG Kreed has pretty bad voice acting.

Voice acting was nothing wrong with, it wasnt as good as the voice acting of halo2 (Just like a movie!) but still!
BTW, i made some mods and ive got a dutch fansite!

I played the Chaser demo recently and wasn’t that impressed. I know its been out for a few years but It mostly seemed like running around and shooting the same enemy over and over as they randomly appear. Is the demo a bad representative for the full game? I hope the full game is completely different because the demo wasn’t very fun. Actually it was frustrating. I liked the mapping, textures, and destructable wood. The levels in the demo were very cleverly constructed. I liked the damaged buildings and cars.
If someone can convince me that the full game has more puzzles and an interesting story then I’ll get the full game.

I played the demo of Chaser and I inmediately got engaged with this cool game.
I had such a good time playing the demo that I recently decided to buy the full game; now I’m having a great time with it (for those of you who think that FEAR was the first shooter implementing bullettime, take a look at the “Adrenaline mode” in Chaser, then you’ll see who the first in doing so was).
Chaser couldn’t be compared with blockbuster games like Q4, HL2, D3, UT3, etc… but, you know what? Chaser doesn’t need that, it is as good as it gets and also pretty fun to play.
Chaser is a must have for all FPS fans out there (like me)

PD: How could I miss this great game all this time??

Silly me. And here I was, thinking that Max Payne (Released in 2001 and originally a 3D Realms IP) invented Bullet Time and Duke Nukem 3D (Released in 1996 and also a 3D Realms IP) invented “Adrenaline mode” with its Steroids.

How much these young gamers think they know when in reality they are absolutely clueless. Next, I will be reading that the Quake (ID) or UT (Epic) series invented jump pads rather than Rise of the Triads (Released in 1995 and also a 3D Realms (Apogee) IP).

First off, I’m not that young (As a matter of fact, I should thank you for calling me “young gamer”, nice compliment mate).
I certainly know that Max Payne was the first action game that succesfully implemented “Bullet-Time”… Wait!! Now that I think about it, I remember having seen something called “Spirit Mode” when I played “Turok: Dinosaur Hunter” back in 1997, and that looked pretty much like bullet-time to me (Yeah, it looks like it’s really hard to come up with new stuff in video games, it’s an industry where everything seems to have been already done by someone else)
Anyway, if I happen to sound like a “young gamer” it’s just because I get really excited when I find these “little treasures” (like Chaser); games that have plenty of potential but were unfairly under-rated here in America (like Chaser).

Oh, Killer, thanks again for the compliment, that was such a nice thing to say (although my kid laughed at me when he read it)

At the end of the day, on this site, it’s all about Planet Phillip introducing people to worthwhile games beyond the often hyped blockbusters.

I’m starting to get the impression that Chaser is a good game after all. I don’t know if I’m just spoiled with the newer technologies and AI, but the demo didn’t impress me that much…
Do I need to buy the full version and really give it a try?

Well, if you enjoy playing First Person Shooters, then you should give Chaser a try; you won’t regret it. (and, yes, the full game does have more puzzles and an interesting plot).

Hey Guys. I have both cd’s of Chaser But my second CD is scratched to the limit and wont install, I was able to copy some of the files over but not all.. Is there a way to get just the second CD? I dont even need all the files, just a few.
