Commenting Guide
This guide discusses the comments system and its usage.
EVERYBODY can make a comment on almost every post at PlanetPhillip. No registration is required or encouraged. However there are a few points I wish to make.
The comment system can be used for a number of different reasons. Firstly, you can comment on the post in question, secondly you can review a map or mod. This includes games, maps and mods. Lastly you can ask a question about the post.
EVERY single comment is reactively moderated by me. This means I check each and every one for content that I deem inappropriate. This could be foul language, rude or offensive comments, links to warez or other illegal activity. I therefore reserve the right to edit or delete any or all of the comment. Comments with links are also moderated before they appear.
It is possible to quote sections of comments but this requires javascript to be enabled. To do this select the text you wish to quote then click the Quote Selected Text on the left of the comment text box.
I recommend you type all long or detailed comments in a normal text editor first. That way if something goes wrong with the commenting system you at least haven’t wasted your time or lost your comment.
One of the new features for the 2008 theme is the Live Comment Preview. This provides real-time previewing of what your comment will look like when posted. However, it doesn’t show any Recommendation Images you may have added.
Another new feature of the 2008 theme is the ability to edit your comments upto 15 minutes after you posted them. You can use this feature to correct any errors made when commenting.
Curious as to why your comment wasn’t published? Well here is a collection of treal comments I deleted:
These types of comments don’t help anybody, so please don’t bother posting them.
Occasionally people put links to files within comments, often I either edit out the link or if I have already uploaded the file, simply delete the comment. It’s not a reflection on you more a case of keeping the file links within PlanetPhillip.
I don’t delete comments because they are negative; I delete them because they are rude or offensive. If you don’t like a map or mod at least take the time to try and articulate your reasons!
As you probably know there is no registration required to comment at PlanetPhillip. You do however need to enter certain details for the comment to be accepted. If you don’t have a website please do not enter things like: “http://none”. Just leave the field blank.
I will never give your email address to any third party. You details are safe with me.
It doesn’t happen too often here, but please try and keep your comments on topic. I generally edit or remove these comments.
Feel free to express your ideas, but please be respectful to others. Think of the website as my house; I make an open invitation to visit but, as with my real house, expect a certain level of behaviour.
I take no responsibility for comments posted by other readers.
The Recommendation System is an attempt to simplify how maps and mods are rated. The system consists of 5 levels; Play It Now, Play It Later, Consider It, Think Twice and Avoid It!.
For more information please visit the Recommendation Images Guide.
If you feel you need them, for a review or to illustrate a point, then include them in the comment but I reserve the right to host them locally and adjust the size.
Approximately every 3 months there is a comment review. This means I review comments made in the last 3 months are remove anything that is obsolete. This generally means comments about broken links etc. Once the link has been corrected that particular comment serves no purpose.
