  1. Phillip says Play It!

The opening moments of a new map or mod can be crucial. Sometimes you just know that something is going to be good or bad.

There was something interesting about the start of this one. I can’t exactly say what but I thought “Mmmm, this looks good.”

    Visuals
This is a good looking map, the larger outdoor are lack distance details but that’s about all I could complain about. I certainly didn’t look at every texture etc but the overall feel was one of realism.

    Gameplay
The word deserted should give you a clue that there’s not too much combat, so don’t go expecting a fragfest. A little more would have been nice but I can’t complain.

I experienced one small issue when three Combine rush out of a doorway and from my position is was like shooting fish in a barrel. By making the windows unbreakable it might have improved things a little.

    Layout/Design
There was plenty of axis movement, so I didn’t feel I was always playing on one level. The player path was varied, as were the environments and settings. In fact you get quite a lot for a single map.

    Summary
Worth the download and play through, no doubt about that but lacks enough action to really stand alone. Definitely needs to be part of something larger.

    5 Words Or Less Review

    This is a Zombine fest!

I told Dabu to name it “Deserted Countdown” and to fix some things :P !

    Play It Now!

    Ah, by “I” I mean DiegoTan ;P

  4. Play It Now!

That was really good. I liked it. Level design was really nice. When I saw the rocket, I was like wow. That doesn’t usually happen.
Gameplay was so nice. Combat was good. Mapper didn’t overdo it. I like that.

Briefly, it is cute and shiny, like a 1/2 carat diamond.

  5. Play It Later

This is quite good. Needs playing on ‘Hard’ because ‘easy’ is not very challenging.
Can’t give it a play it now as it finishes just when you’re getting your teeth into it.
On the other hand, the world seems to be watching Wimbledon so this is a welcome alternative.

    Play It Now!

So very promising, yet so short, and has been said, lacking in enemies…..An unfinished project perhaps?5-10 minutes of your time, go on, give it a whirl….

    • An unfinished project perhaps?
No, as I said an entry for a mapping comp. Built quickly because the author doesn’t have much time on his hands.

  7. Play It Later

Good but short with nothing new, would say more but dont have much time on my hands.

    Play It Later

The game started out really good and was showing some potential and then it ended..what a shame.. good for about 8 minutes of play( maybe). Good though, very interesting.. I would give it a “Play It Now!” rating, but due to it’s lack of length, I’ll give it the lesser..

  9. Personal Favourite

Fun, but short, but great lighting, mapping, and NPC placement.

    Play It Later

Short, but has some decent design. Can use some more innovative features and detail, but was enjoyable.

  11. Play It Now!

    Love the lighting.

  12. Maybe?

I thought it didn’t do anything wrong, but unfortunately didn’t do anything to really excite me either. There was a lot of build-up and not much pay-off.

The sounds were used well and created a foreboding atmosphere, and seeing the massive rocket implied that I would get to do something like launch it. Unfortunately this never came to fruition and the end was a little anti-climactic.

One minor annoyance: the room with the headcrab canister in its wall is metal on the outside, but decorated like someone’s living room on the inside. Just seemed a bit odd to me!

  13. Maybe?

Some good ideas here that deserve a full outing, but it ended where even short mods start to get going.

  14. Play It Later

Beautiful looking map, but too less and boring combat.
The path is quite boring to walk and except the zombines there weren’t that much exciting fights.
    Nethertheless the rocket looks awesome!
It lagged pretty often at my pc and it was much too short

Short and sweet – very short.

    Think Twice

No-Sorry-not this time. This one has nothing new to offer and a terrible story and no ending. I mean, come on now. Give us something to work with here. There was no challenge at all as the enemies were simple to overcome. There was no puzzles or plot or excitement to this at all. I would love to see this be the first 10 minutes of a 2 hr. super mod that ends with the player actually going up in that rocket. We did in another one using Mentoz! That was funny.
Anyway, it seems the author has talent but stopped too soon. Hopefully he/she continues and turns this nice start into something great. For now, I would not think it’s worth the effort to download.

  17. Maybe?

It’s short. The enemies are easy. The sounds effects were well done and the rocket looked neat. (I wasn’t expecting to launch it, it just explained the name for me.)

It’s worth playing, but it did end too soon. If the author expands on it, I’d be happy to play more!
