Yes, another Hall Of Fame! First off, be ready for a freakingly hard start. Took me quite a few tries until I realized where to go. If you need help, check screenshot 7.
The two outdoor areas are really nicely made and the second, whcih is also the last level, is a great use of a small area with lots of gameplay.
Generally, I found the mod of average difficulty except for the beginning and perhaps the last level.
The author says this is his first mod, which is pretty cool.
I am sure the mappers amongst the readers will find some errors, and that’s cool, but from a regular player viewpoint it’s a great little mod.
20 June 2009 at 4:35 pm
This page also features the new style screenshot gallery. In an attempt to make the site faster byt not having so many images on each post I have started using a new Falsh gallery. I thought long and hard about using a Flash based gallery but nowadays it’s easy to install if you use the latest browsers.
It also allows you more options.
20 June 2009 at 5:22 pm
According to the GameInfo.txt, the SteamAppId is 220. According to http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Steam_Application_IDs this means that the mod is for Half-Life 2.
20 June 2009 at 6:07 pm
Exactly. That’s why I listed it as Hl2, but as I said the author’s site says “Episode One”, so I thought I would warn readers.
20 June 2009 at 7:41 pm
No, this mod for Episode One;)
20 June 2009 at 7:23 pm
Probably uses some ep1 content thats why the search path also includes episodic and that is not used when strictly an hl2 mod
20 June 2009 at 8:34 pm
I’ve just downloaded but not played it as yet, but looking in the 7-zip folder dialogue I see there’s a .bat file too, as well as the mod folder….Excuse my being a bit dense, but is this supposed to go anywhere? Apologies if this is a silly question…..
20 June 2009 at 9:51 pm
Not a silly question. I put it on the desktop but it didn’t work. You don’t need it becasue you can launch the mod through Steam/Games tab.
20 June 2009 at 11:26 pm
Level design was quite good but gameplay was usually bad. Still worth trying.
20 June 2009 at 11:42 pm
bat files are really just text files that give commands to the pc.The contents of this one are
start hl2.exe -steam -game “Escape”
but they forgot some stuff like the path etc.
21 June 2009 at 7:41 am
Yeah, I almost removed it but felt that would have been wrong, even if it was broken.

Beginning was a bit confusing and personally there were way too many Combines. What the rebel said didn’t make any sense since you didn’t even meet Barney in the mod, ever. Also I don’t understand why the rebels would just leave you there alone to escape from the Combine without any support or even giving you some sort of weapon. A bit ridiculous really.
Anyhow quite fun mod with a pretty impressive level design and nice scripted sequences. Good enemy placement with good amount of ammo and health all around.
21 June 2009 at 7:42 am
I agree with you about the beginning, I hate the idea of leaving an area full of enemies, but in this mod I had no choice.
21 June 2009 at 12:48 am
Help! I’m stuck after I get the car. I killed everyone in the area including the sniper.
I drive down a tunnel and turn left. There is another force field and a red button to the right of it.
The button does nothing.
I can’t figure out where to go now. Doors are all locked and openings all have force fields.
Thanks for any help!
Ion
21 June 2009 at 12:55 am
Oh… duh. I used a grenade and the force field went down. Weird.
21 June 2009 at 7:40 am
I used the gravity gun to “shock” the cable above the switch.
21 June 2009 at 2:48 am
Wow, another fantastic mappack! I really appreciated the effort that went into this. The pacing is really fast in the beginning, and I had no clue where to go, but somehow I managed to fall, crash, slam, bump, run, sprint, shoot, claw, swim, and snaggle my way through the first frantic five minutes with combine chasing after me. I really felt like I was trying to escape the combine. The maps weren’t stellar but the lighting was decent, which made up for it. Keep up the great work, I hope to see more awesome mods like this!
21 June 2009 at 2:51 am
ionymus, you had to destroy the electrode thing holding the cable on the wall above the switch. Anyway… It’s true that the rebel’s chat about helping Barney made no sense, but heck, what a great little mod. A measly 11mb download but there was plenty to do. I really enjoyed the last outdoor sequence with the sniper and attacking combine at different levels. If it hadn’t been for the weaponless beginning and a couple of slightly annoying water areas (I hate swimming underwater in HL2) I would have given this a ‘Personal Favourite’ recommendation.
21 June 2009 at 7:43 am
Sounds like being weaponless is a sore point for all of us.
21 June 2009 at 11:44 am
Actually I didn’t even use anything other than crowbar until the last map. I mean it (OK I play on easy, but that ’s not the point). There were too many headcraps to begin with. First escape scene was completely ridiculous. But than especially in later maps level design was pretty good.
I think this mappack is very nice indeed, but needs alittle more attention to the gameplay.
21 June 2009 at 4:29 am
Great mappack! I enjoyed playing it and it kept me alert all the way through.
Hard beginning that had my adrenalin pumping but then, I had a lot of fun which is why I play games in the first place!
Keep up your good work and I hope to see more in the future!
21 June 2009 at 12:20 pm
Really great start I think (so far), runing away from the combines, great design on the map.
But after I get past the strider and in behind the wood you broke down with the crowbar. Here im stuck, no where to go and if I go out again the strider one shot me even when I ran inside the house again. That must be a bug and the door up the stairs wont open.
I usually don’t need help to solve how to continue but this time I reallty don’t know what too do.
21 June 2009 at 12:35 pm
I have removed your recommendation image because you haven’t finished the mod, and they should only be added once you have finished.
21 June 2009 at 12:25 pm
Anonymous — after you break down th wood door, you find yourself in an L-shaped corridor. At the end is a door leading to health. WHen you’ve topped up, go back into the corridor so you’re facing the door you broke down and you’ll see a door on the left with a wood plank across it. Smash and enter….
21 June 2009 at 12:53 pm
WOW! A great mod for the hardened, seasoned and adept HL2 game player.
Game play in the extreme. Play it now!
21 June 2009 at 5:23 pm
Excellent mod, despite of rather difficult instalation.
21 June 2009 at 10:37 pm
Really enjoyable some slow down (but it’s certainly my config) and for sure for HL2 (I haven’t both episode 1&2 and run it without any problems) this mod really features a lot of intesrting stuff and increase in enjoyament with you progression in a not too linear way the ending is perhaps a little abrupt but for the rest i had a good moment and that’s the major think i look for
22 June 2009 at 12:14 pm
Excellent! In fact, I’m going to play it through again.
22 June 2009 at 7:26 pm
Not sure how to get out of the cell right at the beginning?
22 June 2009 at 7:56 pm
That’s a bug. Restart and a rebel should come up and blow a hole in the wall. Stay away from the cell door, otherwise you’ll get killed, like I did!
25 June 2009 at 4:30 am
Really good. It has alot of action and some decent puzzles to solve. I did have a few bugs though. The jail exit at the start was not working. I was throwing the bed and chair and pounding on the bars and nothing would get the door or window to break or open. If you have this problem just know that someone on the other side is supposed to come along and blow a big hole in the right side corner and you simply walk out.I was stuck for about 10 minutes in that cell.
The other bug was when I was under water and broke the vent grating to get out of the small room. I couldn’t get inside the vent. I finally tried stacking a box under it first then I was able to go in. I don’t think you can go from the ground straight into the shaft, even though your supposedly swimming underwater and it shouldn’t matter.
Other then that it was a fun mod and well worth downloading.
25 June 2009 at 7:10 am
I loaded it up, started in the cell, stood around for 5 minutes and nothing happened after the firefight outside. A blocker at the beginning of the mod? What a waste of time.
25 June 2009 at 7:42 am
It’s a bug, try restarting the mod.
31 December 2009 at 7:00 am
Same here. Simply stand all the way back by the cell window.
The rebel who’ll use a grenade to blow a hole in the wall won’t do so if your too close to the cell door.
25 June 2009 at 5:38 pm
A solid well balance mod with typical HL2 encounters. After a difficult start that takes a few attempts before finding the right path the mod finally settles down, and follows the established trend of Combine, Zombie and Headcrab action. Other then a bug right at the beginning with the cell wall not blowing-out, just restate the game if this happens, I had no problem technical or challenge wise.
If this is a first time mod by the author then it is indeed a remarkable effort, but just wonders whether the author has experience in mapping other engines?
Whilst the maps contains nothing knew for the experience gamer, it nevertheless is a good example of basic HL format, and without reaching great highest in most sphere it is still a very playable mod that is well worth a play through.
27 June 2009 at 12:29 am
I really really enjoyed this, though was overwhelmed by the enemies in the first sections more times than I dare admit….If you explore after getting the crowbar & back track a bit, you can find various weapons, though I’m sure I missed several.
There were only a few times when I had no idea where to go to to progress, and a bit of random exploration sorted that out, at least enough to get somewhere forward, even if I had no idea if I’d missed anything or any areas I was supposed to go into….Fortunately the combat does calm down a bit, and gets a bit more balanced as you go on, but the overall design I thought was very well thought out, and held my interest.
This is definitely one I’m going to go back to and play again. As other commenters have said, if this really is this author’s first HL2 Mod, then brilliant, can’t wait to see if they’ve made, or are making, any more….
27 June 2009 at 8:48 pm
Really loved the mod… Very enjoyable in normal difficulty and a real challenge in hard. Unbelievably well done for a first time effort!
28 June 2009 at 9:03 am
So how can you see screenshots when they aren’t there??
28 June 2009 at 10:53 am
I’ll fix them soon.
30 June 2009 at 3:30 pm
Quite a good mod for a beginner, but I have some issues with the start and the end. At the beginning I experienced the same bug as many here that on first startup the wall wasn’t blown. That’s really a game-breaker right there! Also if you don’t want us to fight the Combine find a better way than mysteriously have no weapons dropped. In the open area at the end it was really annoying that you couldn’t kill the sniper with either the Magnum or the charged pulse. Both would have made as much sense as throwing a grenade. Also the destruction of the cable-isolator that stopped some people here is not consistent with earlier isolators who could never be destroyed.
21 July 2009 at 1:49 am
Same comments as many of the others, the beginning and the very end were bad, the rest excellent. Actually the ending, that switch, bothered me the most. Shouldn’t have to come back here to find out there’s something that can be destroyed that everywhere else in this and most maps is never capable of being destroyed at all. I thought the sniper placement and everything near the end was perfect.
27 December 2009 at 8:21 am
This is one of the best short mods I have played in ages.
I found it to be more than the average challenge, which anyone who has played it will tell you.Not a dull moment from the start! Died 10 times before I even knew where the hell I was going !
The maps were well done with some new scenery added. The second out door map was a particular pleasure to kick some combine ass
( when not getting my own handed to me ).
A great little mod for exploring your tactical prowess and changing it up and keeping you quite entertained.
A fine piece of work ! I recommend it 100% !

I enjoyed this.
At first I was so annoyed I felt like quitting. The opening scene is overly difficult, and I don’t particularly enjoy purely trial and error set pieces–I prefer scenes that require forethought and planning. Following that I often felt the mod had been designed by ten year olds who thought that jumping out of a closet yelling boo! is the height of sophisticated humor. I mean, opening a door and getting a headcrab in your face NEVER gets old [rolls eyes]. If HL had a dead cat these guys would have found a way to throw it in your face when you opened a door. But there’s good stuff here, a number of very tricky large-scale battles that were very well done–winnable, but very difficult.
Bravo!

I tried playing through this a few times but there were some recurring issues that prevented me from finishing without cheats. Invisible walls in doorways, the lack of weapons, and instant-kill strider attacks combined to form a bad experience for me. Decent aesthetic mapping but uncalled-for gameplay errors.
