Escape DD – Half-Life 2

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3.

Author’s Note

“Escape is a level created using Half-Life 2. The player attempts to recover the gravity gun, which has been stolen by the Combine forces, and then escape from the Combine facility where he has been trapped. It won’t be easy because puzzles must be solved and enemies must be defeated in order to escape the Combine facility.”

    Phillip says Play It!

This is a PlanetPhillip Exclusive. The author very kindly hunted down the file for me and for that I thank him. In fact you may even thank him too because it’s not a bad little map.I’ve added the publicly available design document to the file, although I have taken the liberty of converting it to a pdf first.

This is another Guildhall release and as such can’t be judged in the same way that other releases can because these release are as much about demonstration of skills as they are for playing the mod.

The premise is pretty standard as is the gameplay. The difference between this map and others is the jumping puzzle. To be honest I’m not a fan of jumping puzzles but the ones included here are not hard, so you won’t have to pend hours jumping and dying or ages jumping and saving.

Once outside the main room you are caught in some fairly easy crossfire.

The ending is rather a non-event but if you approach this map with little expectation you may enjoy it.

    My Recommendation

But remember it’s only a single map with three areas, so don’t expect too much.

    Maybe?

Pretty decent, average level design, very short, good puzzles. Give it a shot.

    Maybe?

One level, one objective. kind of dull.In a nutshell “You” (Freeman) must extract the gravity gun from what looks like some sort of factory that involves smashing things.. While I like the idea of starting up machinery in a factory to complete an objective, I feel that the entire map was lacking, too easy and just plan run of the mill. Finally I believe the ending was kind of sudden as my game just went back to the main menu after I went near the Alyx, you think the woman would come and help me instead of just standing there looking at the wall. Or maybe just your basic fade out and “you’re winner!” screen would indicate that I would take my hand off the keyboard and mouse

Overall, It isn’t PLAY IT NOW material, but if you got a long download ahead of you or need to kill some time:

Apart from a well constructed puzzle this maps has very little to offer. With no constructed ending the player is left wondering, so what, what next?

Consider a play through only if you are short of a game.
