Experiment 04 - Half-Life 2

Story

In the year 2017 a small scientific research laboratory was secretly working to advance cloning technology, eventually inventing a true cloning process. There were four experiments which marked the greatest stages of innovation.

Experiment 01 was conducted in the 1990s, but was ultimately a failure. A rabbit had been successfully cloned, but quickly died due to insufficient technological knowledge. Many protested about experiment on the basis of morals and religion, forcing the lab into greater secrecy. Within a few years a sheep known as “DC-I” was cloned, making Experiment 02 a success. Experiment 03 was very different from the other experiments. In this experiment, a monkey, known only by his cryptic series designation, “DC-IIX”, was cloned without mishap.

For its kind, it had above-average reflexes, a superior intellect, and a strong, healthy body. The most curious and important quality possessed by this monkey was the fact that it had an extra Y chromosome. In the final stages of Experiment 04, a new monkey, dubbed a “Super Twin” for the same unusual qualities found in the DC-IIX clone, was successfully cloned, only to have its original counterpart die unexpectedly.

Kurt Mullins was a scientist and the creator of Experiment 03 and Experiment 04. He was living alone due to a freak traffic accident; his lovely wife had died, leaving a great void in his heart. Despite this, he and his assistants had carried out Experiment 04 in the secret lab, deep within the depths of the earth. Spurred on by the recent success of Experiment 04, Mr. Mullins decided that the time to clone a human had come. The most important question was, “Who is to be the subject?”

Kurt Mullins decided to use himself as the subject. His research had become everything to him, and as such, it would be he who would take the risk. In 2017, Kurt Mullins created his Super Twin within the DCI Company laboratory, but his real body had died unexpectedly, just as the monkey in Experiment 04 had. This project was covered up by DCI Company. Unknown to Mullins, DCI had been making other Super Twins. The human Super Twins that DCI had secretly produced were all faulty, and had died. However, Mr. Mullins had made a flawless clone of himself – or, relatively flawless, depending on your definition.

It was Mr. Mullins’ clone which had the most unusual of characteristics; it,or he, was near-superhuman in addition to being physically immaculate. This Twin was immediately imprisoned in a special holding facility by DCI. It was the hope of the company that he would be a powerful military weapon. Super Twin had all of Kurt Mullins’ memories, locked deep in his clouded mind. DCI assured him that the loss of his memory was a temporary side effect of the cloning process. They quickly attributed it to a flaw in his creation process. However this attempt at deception proved unsuccessful. It took little of his superior intellect to come to a decision. He was going to escape from the special prison.
