Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half Life 1, 2 and 3

introduction

With the recent publication of Sebastian’s Half-Life’s Facts - Strange But True article is seems sensible to start a collection of Half-Life 1 Easter Eggs.

Firstly, for those that don’t know an EasterEgg in this context means something that is hidden in the game and is very difficult to find.

Research

I did a little research and couldn’t find a comprehensive, easy to read list. IF you know of one please tell me.

Community Project

This project is a community Project. That means that I won’t be adding anything (Well, probably not) to this piece. It is all your work. Simply make a comment with your Easter Egg and give some other PP reader and HL1 player some pleasure.

Commenting Notes

Please remember that not all PP readers are native English speakers. So, be careful with phrasal verbs or colloquial words or phrases. I will edit ALL comments but better to save time. I will also edit for layout and formatting but please try to make it look nice and readable. Use the HTML tags.

Be as clear and concise as possible. If you can please email some screenshots of the egg and I will add it to the comment. (Although you can link to images in the post I will only allow images hosted on PP).

If this post proves popular then I am happy to do it for other games, but only the main titles; Half-Life 2, FarCry, Doom 3 etc.

I’m not sure if this counts as an egg but in the beginning of the game if you walk around you can see gman talking with a scientist. Using noclip I tried to look in his briefcase. What i saw looked to be a computor of somesort.

This image is from Gordon Freeman’s Loker. It shows 2 novels, both were written by Marc Laidlaw who wrote the plot for Half Life. You will need to enlarge the image to see the titles.

NOTE: These are the actual titles of some of the novels Mr Laidlaw wrote. Perhaps I should look out for them next time I’m in a bookshop. In fact I think I might have a quick look on ebay.co.uk now - PlanetPhillip

A lot of people probably know this one; After the experiment, head to the reception area where you go after the train ride, hit the computer next to the big metal doors and they will open letting you go into the catwalks with a nice scene.

One of a level designers name can be found on a wall. The name is Riller and he worked for Valve. This can be found by going to map c2a2c and just around the corner is a ramp. Go under the ramp and break the box and the grate under it. It will take you to a room under underneath some grating.

In an alcove on the left against the back wall is where it can be found. To see it more clearly, since its dark there, open your console and type r_fullbright 1. Explode a few things to make it stand out more helps also.

If anybody is interested you can read about marc Laidlaw on Gamasutra. You probably need to register but it is free and well worth the effort. As you can see from the picture Gordon Freeman bears a striking resemblence to him!

andyb. You know the place where you come out of the train at the beggining of the game?

Well youi can come back there after the experiment gone wrong. Just brake the contol panel for the big door with two metal bars and watch the cool sequence at the train stop.

During the first map of “Forget about freeman” chapter there is an elevator to your left which you can’t enter by normal means. Well if you use noclip to get through the doors you will be in a hidden elevator room! There’s also a red triangle inside the elevator and when you get near it the game crashes.

i have two eggs, the first i think some people would know but the second is a little harder

1. in the beggining of the game (before the explosion) if you go behind the desk where the security guard is at the front room there is a button, if you push it alarms start to go off.

2. also in the start of the game, and also in the front room there is a small computer in the corner (its to your left if you stand where you would when you first come in the big metal doors) if you press the action key while facing it, a small screen flips up and another scientist will start yelling at you about how he’s waiting for and important message.

Also at the begining of the game before ya get your HEV suit, go in the lunchroom and you can make the microwave explode, the scientist hollars at you “What are you doing!”
I think it’s one of thoes eggs, but I like messing with all my namesakes!!

Also, if you open your X:\halflife\valve\models there will be a model named chumtoad and v_chub model

At the beginning of the game when you start on the train. Quickly go to the back of the train and use your spray paint on the bottem of the train car. A half life logo will appear. Then after the first loading it will disappear, weird ****.

It isn’t exactly an easter egg, but i’v done a series of videos and posted them on to Utube, all about the G-man. All through the game i was like wtf?? wats with this dude, so I put together all this footage of him in Half Life 1 and 2. Its really freaky!!!
