I’ve been keeping an eye on this. It looks pretty damned impressive. Lot of talent contributing to this.
They’re also updating the ‘Half-Life 2′ section to reflect the actual HL2 Valve made, which is cool.
24 September 2007 at 7:37 pm
Coop Mode? I remember the maps weren’t really linear, so how can this be w/o the maps resetting everytime u enter one?
24 September 2007 at 7:53 pm
Is this Coop only? This was a very long SP game released in parts over a period of time and whilst it was a most enjoyable experience the skins were a bit 2D. So I would be interested in seeing how it’s been improved, however, do not want to waste time with a big download if it has no SP content. Also what version is the PP link above?
24 September 2007 at 7:56 pm
No, it’s going to be SP.
None, it’s not released yet. The links above are to the homepage, the gallery and the original release.
24 September 2007 at 8:07 pm
Thanks Phillip, will look forward to this one.
25 September 2007 at 1:35 am
We are modifying the code in the maps and the maps themselves to work properly.
There will be a set of improved maps for SP and optimized maps for COOP. So the experience will be somewhat different.
25 September 2007 at 2:20 am
VERY cool! Can’t wait! I enjoyed this mod a lot, though it was very difficult!
26 September 2007 at 5:36 pm
Editor321, are you chnging the maps themselves – different layouts, number of npc’s etc.?
26 September 2007 at 6:22 pm
We are going to “improve” the maps. This is still somewhat in the discussion stages as we don’t have the other mapper we need for the project.
What we have planned is more models than props and better visuals. The layouts will stay essentially the same, as for the number of NPC’s, at this time no idea. Need that other mapper :p Saxon is quite busy and would like the help.
08 December 2007 at 7:18 pm
I’ve just added their new promo video.
09 December 2007 at 9:04 am
Looks fantastic so far. Still can’t wait for that coop play!
10 December 2007 at 3:17 am
I can ensure this is one of the five best mods for Half Life. There’s to much too see, all new story, enemies (some the original behavior and AI, like the mutant gorilla =D), background stories in some texts, lots of interesting puzzles.
If you think Half Life mods can’t give more to you and never played this, YOU HAVE TOO!
This GAME is too good to be free ^^.
10 December 2007 at 1:30 pm
Nice update, really, but those walk animations seriously need more work. They walk like rusty robots, robots imitating transvestites, totally weird.
No offense, but these upper arms held close to the body but the lower arms spread…it’s just the look
Still, awesome mod
11 December 2007 at 2:15 am
Phillip, can you disable the recommendation system in this post until the pack gets released?
11 December 2007 at 7:56 am
Currently, no. I have been looking for a coder to make the recommendation system a plugin for Wordpress and part of the rating system for a while.
I would then be able to chose which categories the system is displayed for.
I remove the images when I noticed them on unreleased projects, I must have missed the one above (Now removed).
16 December 2007 at 11:52 pm
Oh man, I remember this the first time round. Huge, in some places confusing, and constantly pretty damn funny. New enemies, new weapons and lots and lots of stuff to shoot holes in. I like
Looking forward to playing it again in it’s newer, shinier version.
21 January 2008 at 11:08 pm
when will this new version come out
21 January 2008 at 11:10 pm
Q2 of 2008 if all goes well.
13 March 2008 at 7:56 pm
In image 8…
..just…what?
What was it you replaced? It is gloriously, wonderfully new. What did it used to be?
13 March 2008 at 8:00 pm
Bullsquid.
14 March 2008 at 7:04 pm
Really?
Now that’s what I call an enhancement!
Keep up the good work
29 May 2008 at 2:13 pm
this looks like a wicked mod! i carnt wait til it comes out!
17 November 2008 at 5:21 am
The mod looks like an extreme improvement, but I kinda feel I might like the old voice acting a little better.
Hope to see this soon, though
20 November 2008 at 10:27 pm
Looking good. can’t wait to play it.
21 November 2008 at 5:50 am
Dang, for a second there I thought it said “release”
29 June 2009 at 3:07 pm
So it’s released! Downloading now!
29 June 2009 at 7:25 pm
Having never played HL1 mods via Steam I am not sure how to load and play recent download HEART OF EVIL : NAPALM EDITION. The readme file states Simply extract the files in this ZIP folder to your Half-Life directory.
It should look like this C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\youremailaddress\Half-Life\Evil.
I have Half Life: Source installed and showing in my Steam menu. Do I just create Files\Steam\SteamApps\youremailaddress\Half-Life\Evil or does it require to be generated by other means? Either way I think I need an idiots guide. Thanks in advance.
29 June 2009 at 7:26 pm
Okay I haven’t tried to install this mod but firstly, forget HL: Source altogether. It’s not related to this mod, so you don’t need it.
This is correct: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\youremailaddress\Half-Life\Evil.
Don’t forget the two other .dlls files.
Then restart Steam and it will be listed in your Games menu, like Source mod would.
I am doing this as I type and will add to this comment if it’s different.
EDIT: Okay, the above works for me.
29 June 2009 at 7:59 pm
Sorry Phillip but I did say I needed an idiots guide, which was why I put it on the forum, I was using this mod as an example but my question applies to any Steam HL1 mod.
So I think I need to know from basis, I dont have the said file created on my machine, so I am thinking I don’t have HL1 Steam means, have always played HL1 through WON menu.
29 June 2009 at 8:06 pm
Asking for an idiots guide doesn’t mean you have to ask on the forum, but let’s ignore that. It sounds like you don’t have a Steam installation of HL1 then. You could try going to “Activate a product on Steam” which is near the bottom of the “My Games” tab. Then you will enter the requested information, things like the activation code from your WON copy. Be warned though it might have already been registered! If that doesn’t work, send me an email and I can lend you an acount until you/we figure out how to get you a proper copy. (Lending you an account is very easy and doesn’t require much effort on your part, and it’s still easy to use all your currently installed mods etc)
29 June 2009 at 8:10 pm
If you have HL won edition use that key to activate it on steam.HL source dont work for much of anything concerning mods.
29 June 2009 at 8:19 pm
That’s what I said, but Mel should know that there is a chance that his WON version has already been registered. He might be able to get it back depending on how he bought it.
29 June 2009 at 9:18 pm
I’m very excited about this. I’ll play it tonight and finish it tonight I think
29 June 2009 at 9:35 pm
I seem to be having a problem with the document inventory. No matter which one I choose it only shows the text from the last thing in the list.
29 June 2009 at 10:10 pm
This mod is very good. Well made, well presented and a lot of fun. But who, oh why, oh why, were some of the best sequences removed? The helicopter ride with ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ playing, the truck being chased by a helicopter as you travel to the next base, and so on. And the zombies are VERY hard to kill. The first two I met when the silo doors of an army base opened were shot to the ground at least 5 times before I used explosives. They just kept getting up again!
I need these questions answered, and even though some of the bigger mechanics have changed, this is definitely my final score of the mod.
29 June 2009 at 10:28 pm
The zombies can only be killed with explosives or a m60.Its in one of the letters when you get to the base.Think its also in the readme
29 June 2009 at 10:47 pm
As I’ve said, I love this enhanced version of the mod, but why change these things? Even for the whackiness of this mod that makes little sense.
30 June 2009 at 10:59 am
the horror the horror. i wont be able to play this till the weekend. oh, the horror.
looks great and large. i have hoped for a large HL1 mod to come out.
01 July 2009 at 1:54 am
I cannot rate it. I do not do do HL any more and fail to understand the recent rash of HL mods. HL is brilliant for it’s time but then so were Blakestone and Doom. Have we not moved on with EP2 and the Orange Box?. Nostalgia is all very well and, hey, I suffer from it from time time myself.
I’m off to bed to dream of times past and then wake up to the new dawn and new adventures and experiences (even though I’m in the UK and our governments is carp).
01 July 2009 at 4:56 am
Yeah well, good for you. As for me I continue to enjoy HL1, a game that never gets old; In fact, I find it amazing the fact that modders still work on this brilliant game and come up with awesome creations. Thanks a lot to the talented people of the HiT forums, HL improvement, HL creations and also PP for keeping this great game alive!
02 July 2009 at 2:08 pm
Yes, the only reason to play games more than a few years old is nostalgia. That this is a TC makes that statement even more ridiculous.
01 July 2009 at 6:52 pm
I am not sure if I will play through this version, I well remember the original and how the author first released in parts so building up the suspense and expectations. That aspect of the game won’t be there for me; however I am still a lover of HL1 and as such always living in hope that someone in the future will come-up with a release that matches the best of the custom releases. As for having a crap UK government your alternative is dog #$%&.
01 July 2009 at 6:53 pm
Need a hint. Who is supposed to fly the Plane?
01 July 2009 at 7:49 pm
Opps Nevermind I got it!
01 July 2009 at 8:22 pm
Hi, Naked-Headcrab, thanks, you are correct; it is good for me. It is also good for those who do not agree with me that PP does what he does for you. I hope you keep playing and enjoying.
Mel, your spelling!!!! Tut tut. I wrote carp (a big stinking rotting pile of them) not crap. That would be just rude and we would prefer dog #$%&.!
Anyway, if all those gifted people who make HL mods moved to HL2, preferably EP2, I, and I suspect others, would be in heaven.
01 July 2009 at 9:13 pm
I can’t open the doors which leads to the plane any clues ??
I have the fuel used the car with it’s 4 tyres killed the general called in for help by that traitor sergeant and still I can’t open the doors which lead to the airstrip. Do I need a key for them or what’s going on. I checked on youtube loaded a video showing the original mod
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtNbO1Sx-dU&feature=PlayList&p=A2F010E7B428ACC0&index=10
and there you don’t need any keys etc.
01 July 2009 at 9:18 pm
nevermind… A stupid headcrap body blocked the door all the time… ^^
Except for some minor bugs with the documents in inventory what doesn’t work for me.
It’s a great remake.
04 July 2009 at 3:15 am
so that Barney dude has to be locked up too (i.e.: inside that prison with the oatmeat?)
01 July 2009 at 9:43 pm
Thanks for pointing that out Jasper, I did a lot of Carp fishing in England. A lot of recent HL1 releases have come from eastern European countries and I would expect these authors to eventually move on to HL2.
08 July 2009 at 8:41 am
Excellent stuff!
I have reached the fourth chapter (power station) and have a little problem though.
The opening scene is that the plane has just landed, but I find that I am stuck in the plane, no movement at all, a bit like the old lift bug.
Tried noclip, but that didn’t work!
Any suggestions?
Phil
08 July 2009 at 10:44 am
Belay that!! I have sorted it –
My comment above about the old lift bug made me think.
I used to get round that bug by repeatedly hitting the space bar to make my character jump, so I tried that – and it worked!
Cheers Phil

Having played through the whole thing, I encountered a few bugs and several flaws, which I mentioned at the HIT forums. I’m going to copy-paste the list rather then type it all again.
Good Points
- Models. The best part of Napalm. They’re all awesome.
- Unkillable zombies. Took a while to get used to it, but once I did it made perfect sense and worked brilliantly. Must have been hard to code.
- Redone levels. Haven’t played through them all, but the ones I have played through were excellent.
- The Alamo. Surprisingly strong add-on.
- The UFO replacement. The temple, as well as being very well made, also makes much more sense.
Bad Points
- The new voices. Barney’s a little too silly now, and it was hard to understand your two superiors at the beginning.
- Letters. There’s some engrish in the redone ones which breaks the flow.
- Chapter titles. While well done, they’re utterly inappropriate.
- Chopper/Truck rides. They may not have been entirely in keeping with the rest of the mod, but I’ll be damned if I don’t miss that opening chopper ride with the Wagner blaring out.
- The controls. Most people these days use a WASD configuration – it took me 10 minutes to remap all the buttons from the completely different set-up the mod came with by default. Not the most major of criticisms I know, but it’s a pain all the same.
- Letter Storage. Several times I’ve been given several diary entries or multiple part letters in a single location. Which would be fine if the game gave me enough time to read them (it doesn’t) or it let me re-read them at my leisure at a later date (it should, but due to a glitch, every entry from the chapter you’re in displays the text from the last read letter). Being able to store the letters is a nice idea, but it’s flawed in practice.
- The End. Or rather, what ending? A huge chunk’s been cut from the original – no HL2 section, no zombie Barney, nothing. The game doesn’t end, it just sort of… stops. Hardly a satisfying conclusion to the story.
Overall, it’s a good enough mod, but I can’t help feeling that it would have been better if they’d just released the models separately rather then redoing the whole mod.
08 July 2009 at 9:10 pm
Oops! Spoke too soon – see my posts above – I can move about in the plane now, but I can’t get out of it.
Barney is just standing in the cockpit and won’t respond to me, whilst outside zombies are shot and don’t die and then they kill the soldiers.
And I can’t repeat my “jumping” trick to reload the chapter from the start ————
Suggestions anyone?
08 July 2009 at 9:15 pm
Oh! bugger!!!
I am out of the plane now – what is it about PP that provides answers to problems without anybody saying anything!
It is a wonderful site.
12 July 2009 at 4:11 am
From the beginning it freezes up, several times it froze my pc.
13 July 2009 at 3:35 am
i am progressing very well in this super great mod. but, i am having no luck in loading the elephant shot gun rounds. i try alt fire for the shot gun and reload only loads the standard rounds. anyone have any ideas? i was thinking of shooting all my basic rounds and then useing the elephants if it would let me. but, before i did that i figure its just a key i didnt bind to standard wasd. thanks
14 July 2009 at 1:26 pm
The secondary fire for the shotgun isn’t at all explained in-game, so I’m not surprised you’re having trouble.
In order to load the shotgun with the buckshot shells, you need to have some free space in your shotgun. Since a full shotgun has 7 shells loaded, get down to about 4. Once there, press the secondary fire (the right mouse button) to load the buckshot shells ON TOP of the normal ones. Now, when you fire the shotgun, you’ll fire the buckshot shells until you run out, at which point you’ll go back to the nromal shells.
Hope that helps.
15 July 2009 at 3:49 am
thanks, i have a feeling i will need them. i will try them latter tonight. if i survive i’ll post a comment, if not well. i died trying. hehe.
