Definitely not the worst map to play!

I didn't quite know what to do after the first batch since I didn't notice the second gun at first. Then it became clear. Kind of pointless as a stand-alone, aside from a quick bit of fun.

If this is used as a transition piece and there is more of an element of danger/urgency, it would be nice.

If the goal was to make a retro arcade game using the source engine, then kudos! Gameplay, however, is pretty much pointless. If all of this bashing has you curious, it's not the worst way to spend 5-10 minutes.

Spot on SolidFake! I do not. Playing for points when you are immortal is just inane and pointless in my view.
'not to survive' ? How did you manage to die?
Funny? - Perhaps I've lost my sense of humour.
Whatever turns you on - vive la differance.
You scored more than me! Bother - distraught, depressed, distressed - back to SM to get killed and re-load lots.

Dude, the point of this map is to make as high scores as possible, not to survive. Seems like you don't like highscore based games.

Quite funny for a short round, the enemies have enough place to hide, the gun lagged sometimes?, also nice that there are three areas. Nothing you can do wrong with playing this.
Yay, got over 16000 :P
(and damn, those manhacks are hard to hit)

I scored over 13,000!! Wow.
It's pointless nonetheless. You stand, invincible, with a machine gun killing Combine who have not even got the decency to point a gun at you.
I applaud Phillip for getting a response from a Guildhall student. A great pity that the response resulted with this.
A waste of space.

Not much point to this one, arena type target practice with scores, about as much reply value as my old 78 rpm records through a cd player.

Emailing all those Guildhall students finally paid off.

Visuals
The areas are detailed and realistic, which gives an air of authenticity to level.

Gameplay
I really didn't know what to expect when I started playing this and was surprised at what I had to do. "Holding the fort" is not a new mechanic but this implementation is more limiting than others. You are simply required to stand at three mounted AR2 guns and defend your base.

I have three problems with the level as it stands.

1. The points. I don't see any reason to include these and if they were included in a real transition level would take some immersion away from me. There is also the fact that they do nothing.

2. The fact that I cannot get hurt when standing at the guns. Now I know that I am behind a force field but being invincible takes away some of the tension from the action. You can get hurt when the manhacks enter the base just before you start shooting but not enough to actually kill you.

3. Being alone. I would have preferred to have had a few fellow rebels with me, even if they have low health and die quickly.

I could go on about other points, but to be fair it's just a little map and we shouldn't get too critical of it.

Layout and Design
It's hard not to feel that the place has been crafted specifically for the objective but in levels like this it can be very difficult to make the gameplay that you want AND have a complete feeling of realism.

Summary
A little too "arcade" like for my tastes but I still feel you should play it. As the author says in the description, it was meant as a level transition and playing it on its own and judging ths is wrong, but we have it and for that I am thankful.
