This is a remake of the On a Rail section from Half-Life 1. Half-Life: Source was used as the inspiration apparently.
I found it via tip from jasper, who saw it on Grinder74.com, who seemed to how found it on PlayGround.ru.
I converted to a normal folder installation without the author’s permission and hope that’s ok. The bad news is that in doing so increased the file size a bit.

My first review didn’t seem to get posted. Anyway, I only gave this a “Maybe” recommendation because, whilst it’s quite fun to play, the rail section on its own, without working up to it, is a little boring.
The author seems to have done a good job in recreating the feeling and the vehicle worked well, although who really enjoys this section?
Fun for a little while but not terribly exciting.

OAR is my 2nd favorite HL1 chapter, just behind Xen. The reason is the atmosphere of OAR…the long tunnels with the mystery of “which tunnel should I take?” and the lonley sound of the wind in the tunnels which made them eerie. Can’t wait to try this mod soon. Hope the author didnt leave out the wind noise, as SO MANY modders do.

People never understand how bad it can be for a developer to see its product/project repackaged by a third party, and it amaze me. Simple things like md5 checksum authentication are left broken when you do this, not to mention potential problems that would be blamed on the original developer’s shoulders.

I understand your point but my readers don’t like executables and some never use them. That means that the mod would reach a smaller audience. I generally check before I convert a mod’s format but in this case didn’t.
Since I mentioned that I converted it, I feel confident that my readers would report problems here first, before blaming the author.
I’m not sure what you mean by md5 checksum authentication are left broken. Obviously the MD5 checksum is now different but since my readers haven’t seen the original they wouldn’t be confused. Unless I have misunderstood, in which case, please explain.

Why would anyone want to recreate the most tedious chapter from the original Half-Life when there are so many other far better ones such as “We’ve Got Hostiles” and “Surface Tension”? Beats me…

In the absence of Black Mesa, just about anything will do, I guess….

I’m an HL2 nut nowadays but I doubt that even HL1 nuts will like this.
Very slow, no sense of impending doom and no atmosphere like the original.
I had to noclip out of a pool of water as the clearly visible ladder turned into a figment of my imagination.
I lost the railcart on 2 occasions and again when a level changed.
Nevermind, the odd spot of pink and black checkerboards brightened thing up a bit!
Combat? Not a lot.
Battle skills and tactics needed? No.
Enjoyment? None found.
Irritating? Very.

I guess that I’ll be waiting for Black Mesa instead…
