Hey people, I just downloaded this and started played, seemed alright up to the point with the sounds. When I go to reload a weapon such as the m4, the desert eagle or the m9 it doesn't make the sound, the reloading sound, and it's driving me outta my mind, anyway I was wondering if anyone can help me with this issue?

Opposing Force Redux is brilliant. If you feel like playing Opposing Force again, or fancy trying some of the Opposing Force mods listed on this website, or you are simply new to original Half-Life and its expansions and you are put off by the ancient graphics, then this pack does a great job of hiding the game's age. Of course it can't improve the detail of the levels themselves, but all the friends, enemies and weapons are given a good kick into the 21st century. (Remember to also install the update patch to fix a few problems though.)

If the modders had simply done "Half-Life Redux" it would have been a bit pointless as there are already loads of great custom replacement models for Half-Life, as well as the official High Definition pack. But it is great to have an enhancement pack geared towards Opposing Force as althogh the official high definition pack updates the standard Half-Life models it does not include replacements for the extra weapons and monsters that are in Opposing Force, and there is a lack of Opfor custom models as well.

Some people don't like the new sounds, but the new sounds are fun for those that have played Half-Life a million times; new enemy and weapon sounds spice up the experience. It is debatable whether the new sounds are as good as the originals, but they do make an interesting change. Some people are bothered by the fact that some sounds are from other games, but since the modders are unlikely to own rocket launchers and machine guns and they do not have their own professional sound studio, they did the best they could and used the coolest sounds that they could get their hands on. If you do not enjoy the sounds you can simply go into your Opposing Force sound folder, find the ones you don't like and delete them.

There are a couple of little problems - the sound file for using a health machine is the sound of the HEV suit talking about defensive weapon selection or something, which I presume is a mistake as it makes no sense. Secondly, one of the ambient sounds (with a filename like "industrial") is a short looping segment of music! Industrial music perhaps, a little joke by one of the team members? Anyway, these things are easy to fix - the weird health machine sound is in the "items" sound folder, and the industrial music sound file is in the ambient folder. Simply delete.

By the way, I did the design for the computer screen mounted on the Displacer gun. I figured "what use is a teleporter with no control panel!", and based it on computer screen designs from System Shock 2 and a black hole diagram I found on the internet. I also mixed the sound effects for the Displacer gun, and did the sprite for the new alien teleportation effect. I think I'm credited for one of those in the readme but not the others. I'm not bothered though, as I'm just glad to have helped this great enhancement pack!

I thought the models were very impressive but the new sounds for the monsters were unneccessary. The gargantua sounded like a bear. I like how you tried to make the zombies sound like half-life 2 zombies but you could have used there sounds because the ones you put on there were stupid, I esp hated the slaves and alien grunts, die human, how stupid is that. The models are impressive though, it's just the sounds I don't like.

<blockquote> I have a PIII 930 Mhz 512 MB Ram WinXP Pro SP2 computer, and when I loaded this pack, it worked really slowly. (I had the non-steam version, by the way). Try it out, if it works well, I think it's worth it. If not, delete it off every square inch on your computer and make an oath that not one memory of the redux will come to your empty head.

Enjoy!</blockquote>

I have the same version. i don't have nor steam nor won. i don't have OP4, but it IS also one enhancement package for Nuclear Winter too

I still can't get this to work on my Steam version of Op4. I thought it was what it was made for.
Still, I really liked this pack when I played it on WON, so it only just scraped this rating from me:

I think this is pretty good. It needs work though, and the new rpg sound is a blatant rip-off of unreal 2's assault rifle. Still, I look forward to any improvements in the future.

(Message to heyzors) Open my computer, and go to the c drive and locate your half-life folder. If you have non-steam half-life, dump the files in the gearbox folder. The readme is written for steam half-life.

However since it's been visible for over a month I'll leave it. Perhaps you can explain why you think it's <i>"trash"</i>?
