About

Pharaoh’s Curse was originally a retail stand-alone game based on the Return to Castle Wolfenstein game but has now been cleaned and modified to a single player mod by Vicpas. All levels are inside Egyptian Pyramids with a creepy ambiance. You will combat zombies and Warzombies in the begin until the last level. Your objectives are to collect some treasure, to kill all zombies guards and finally the Pharaoh!

Notes
  • This modification requires a retail version of RtCW to work
  • All dialogs are in Russian.
  • In the level 1 there are difficult puzzles and traps.
  • The levels are very dark.
  • This Mod has five levels.

Does this mod require RTCW? The text says: ’stand-alone mod’, so you’d think not…

I’m pretty certain that this needs the full game. I’m pretty sure the original retail version didn’t.

I played it sometimes ago. It’s indeed a standalone. Basically, the mod is not so big, around 10 maps. In fact, this package includes ripped data and .exe of legit RtCW! Pharaoh’s Curse, like Operation Trondheim I and II and other russian mods I forgot the names where made and sold in russia as full ‘games’ (which means yes, the standalone part is pir4t3d stuff…)

But, hey! This doesn’t mean it’s BS! On the contrary. I had great time playing this mod. Quality mapping and gameplay if you consider yourself as someone who likes dark moody environments, hordes of zombies in tomb style corridors and chambers -sometimes hard to solve-puzzles/secrets to unlock claustrophobic progression and access to gorgeous final temple map. (pheew!)

Remember RtCW 3rd (or 4th, I’m not sure) map, zombie caves under the graveyard or something? So it is in style, but bigger scale, with more intricate progression…

I think this mod very strong stylization comes also from the deliberate choice of narrowing down the ennemies to zombies only and the weapons to your basic pistol. Yes. I know. This may not be of anybody’s taste, but I really liked this biased approach.

This story unfolds in one of the darkest corners of RtCW universe.
My only -but big- deception was some sort of -uh- very lame ending…

PS- Available as Mac OS X standalone mod too. But I’m not sure the nature of this stuff allows links to be posted here… One may think to work on these interesting russian mods in order to distribute them whitout their illegal content. But I read from the guy who did the Mac conversion, that if you remove the concerned files, the mods become unplayable!

    Dilemma!

its a very good mod, i liked the details of maps, the hard gameplay, the doom 3 sounds (I knew the most of sounds where from there).
The only thing that i really hate its the end, its totally lame. I prefer a battle with him. (not just “SPOLIER REMOVED” :P )

Am I missing something? I don’t see a link to download this mod. I’m not very observant sometimes… did I overlook it?
