Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Since I have been playing all these HL1 mods for the 100SDoN event I have ridden quite a few tram rides.

It got me thinking about roller-coasters and how some people like sitting in different positions (an acquaintance travels the world riding them and explained all about it).

I think the first time I rode the tram at the beginning of HL1 I was back and forth like a yo-yo, trying to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

Of course, it’s different when you are in a combat situation but I’m still curious about where you stand.

  1. I move around to see all of the facility around me, I generally start at the front then move around to see things better. I remember a couple of times trying to sit in a seat.

I too like to look around at what is out the window. sometimes I keep moving back to keep the object in view. now, if someone decides to take a pot shot at me, well. all bets are off and I am crouched and deal them a world of pain. or, just threaten them with my crowbar.

I usually run around like a headless chicken checking out the view. Though if I happen to stay still it's often at the front watching as the tram moves forward.

I took the handicap spot, as Gordon have back problems and couldn't sit down. Got bored with that and started jumping all over the place.

Same here in every tram I've checked all locations sometimes even restarted the map to see possible spots I've missed.. Tram rides were really one of the best things in Hl.

My own mod will also feature a short but nice tram ride…

Most of the time I head to the back of the tram. I do usually pop up to look at people as they can be seen while we're going past. Of course I've always wondered, is that the SAME tram car we get on at the end? Did Gman steal it? :)

Who wouldn't move around? But I found out when you duck-jump while the train is moving, it would seem you have a long-jump device on. I know you don't really have one, but it just seems that way.

I like to "sit" in the middle, in the handicap spot, mainly because it's the most easily accessible seat, but also because it's in the center of the tram and I can sort of wiggle around to take a better look at what's going on outside.

I just wish I didn't have to keep holding down ctrl to remain "seated", I wish games would give you the option to press a button to simply sit down more often; a trivial thing, I know, but I like these little details.

I initially froze and just moved my view around to marvel at the incredible scenery of such an amazing intro.
Old gamers will know that many early games did not allow you to move around on an object in motion. You usually fell through it, (e.g. Lift/ Elevator), or crashed the game!
I got braver as the monorail continued into the bowels of Black Mesa and started to move around. Even experimented with a jump up and down to see if the usual happened, but no fall or crash!
The next generation of game had arrived.
So I ran around to take in as much scenery as I could see and was richly rewarded!
I am looking forward to repeating this experience when a certain mod arrives. Fingers crossed!

This was my memory of the first time I played Half Life a week after it came out. No steam then and my PC had an amazing 32mb of ram!
