  1. OK, I just finsihed playing this and well, it’s not very long. Expects about 3-5 minutes of action. However I did learn a new way to shoot things. More on that another time. The screenshots show a night sky but when I played it was daytime (I think!)

    O.K. Phillip, I’m curious??

  3. Well, shooting those Combine Gunships has never been a problem but this time I noticed that it (the Combine Gunship) was shooting my rockets down. This was because I was firing straight at it. I decided to fire the rocket into the air from behind the wall and then come out and direct the rocket at the CG.

This way the rocket approaches from directly above the CG and cannot be shot down. It also has the advantage of hitting is rotators, which I presume take the most damage. Now, I accept that this is a technique that everybody may have taken for granted but it never occurred to me before!

It was this episode that made me decide to start the Single-Player Playing Guide because I thought there must be lots of tactics and techniques applicable to all FPS games. I just will try and collect those ideas into an easy to read guide.

  4. I was half-way through HL2 before I twigged onto the rather obvious fact that a headshot does more damage to your enemies than pumping shells into their bodies. I blame Serious Sam — that was no where near as sophisticated!

  5. The rocket ship technique rings a bell. The show G4TV (not sure if this is a show in Europe) had an episode on HL2-E1. During the scene where you need to take the groups of resistance fighters to the train station and the sniper shows up in between runs. I remember the player safely shot the rocket from behind the building and then ran out and guided the missile toward the sniper. Even old dogs can learn new tricks!! Thanks.
BTW, the show also showed a cheat on how to spawn the new “mini strider” enemy if anyone is interested.
