    Maybe?

    From the txt file:-
‘I think (well, hope…) that this level is more strategy orientated than most SP levels. With the real.cfg you can't get by just running in and blasting everything, because they will kill you very, very quickly.’
Short mod (1 map). Just grunts. Difficult and dangerous. I like these "challenging but not impossible" mods. Even though its very short, it's good.

  2. LOL reminds me of METALLICA's song seek and destroy

  3. Phillip says Maybe

It's a pretty tough map this one. There's definitely not much to look at but some players may really enjoy it. I had to cheat to finish it, so I could post it. I don't really like to do that but being a webmaster takes precedence over the luxury of playing at my own speed.

The thing that really bugged me with this map was the music. It's just the Valve logo jingle which is quite short, so it repeats a lot.

There are a number of fixed heavy weapons, one of which the player can use, which is kinda fun.

All in all, it's a challenging map but lacks a coherent layout or design. This is definitely a players map over a pretty map.

    Avoid It!

    That was ridiculously difficult!! the fixed guns, turret and amount of grunts made this almost a non-starter and some of the sections were just plain stupid;
The laser trip-mines on the conveyor belt, one and then a whole line of about twenty.
The scientists working calmly when just around the corner where two grunts about 30yards/metres away.
How did the plane get in there? and how was it supposed to get out?

I died too many times for this to be enjoyable and the layout could almost have been made with Lego.

Unless you like ridiculously difficult mods avoid this one.

At least I got to shoot a Bullsquid, I love the way they jump in the air when you shoot them.

  5. Think Twice

This map starts with spectacular camera flythrough. But the scenery, howewer, is not spectacular. Flat walls, which try to imitate outdoor areas, then some rooms. It is very noticeable that not much thought was put into it: the screen fades after the cutscene, and not at its end; if you jump on the truck, the surroundings will disappear for a moment; some bad texturing.

The battles have the correct walkthrough which you need to figure out.

The ending is disappointing. I was expecting the plane to move and crash at the wall. But it's good that it at least has an ending.

Looks like the author was either in a hurry or inexperienced. With some more work, it would be a nice map, but in it's current state it can interest only the gameplay fans.

I enjoyed this one, nice challenge, difficult but well doable. it's going to take 2 or 3 attempts to get through a few of the Grunt sequences, but that's half the fun. There is plenty of the right ammo on hand, but the health is on the short side, so you need to think through each encounter.

No marks for set design and layout, it's basic and boxy with rough textures, nevertheless, what we have is adequate for the job, the only dislike is the ending, which for me just crashed out with the fuel exploding behind the aircraft, I guess that's the intended end?

If it was not for the ending I would say Play Now.

    Avoid It!

Fairly tough combat is the only worthwhile part of this map. It features very basic layout, and poor texturing and lighting. No real puzzles are included, just shoot your way through and hit a button.

There is a total lack of polish, from a place you can jump out of the level to the repetitive HL title and music (although it's possible Steam is more to blame for that). Skip this one.

For those that do play it, a tip for the opening section:Stay underwater by crouching! Neither the grunts nor the bullsquid will see or attack you, so you can easily hand them some death by crowbar.

    Play It Now!

Well i'm putting this a playing it, because I liked the concept, I mean go there caput, and then go out, the only inconvinient is that there isn't any "go out", it'd be nice to have a longer map, I know this was hard as hell, almost impossible to kick it without "god" cheat, especially with those hell machineguns, but again I liked the concept, i'd loved to flight that nice bird (i love combat planes and it's simulators, so I highly recommend, Strike Fighters Cmbf), and get outta there as in the "pure evil" mod, with a similar concept and developed by the guy who developed the best hl1 mod ever, yes Heart of Evil mod, so I think that's all.

Shame on you all godmod abusers (except phillip, he has to manage this website.)

The level is as described, a challenging map vs. soldiers in some bland (and in some cases, poorly crafted) maps. I counted at least 3 instances of bad mapping causing the architecture to look unsatisfactory. An area with about 20 breakable boxes are all empty so that was a waste of my time there. This also makes for a barely recognizable setting that reminds me of Blood and bones, where a player has to guess what kind of setting he is in. I'm guessing it's some generic base in the mountains with an out-of-scale model jet you must destroy. The fact that the mapper left us an unrefined map (I swear, a wooden box broke into glass pieces) means he either had little experience or wasn't dedicated to making a good map.

So with the bad mapping, the tough-as-nails gameplay kinda makes up for it. Kinda. It was surprising difficult even for me… especially with no autosaves. The mapper got out every annoying scenario about fighting soldiers and put them into this map. Grenade spam, rappeling grunts from thin air, grunts manning high-rate-of-fire tanks. The only thing missing (thank goodness) is grunts w/ contact grenades. Stealth and strategy are sorely needed in this map.

If there were autosaves, this map could be pretty good only in terms of gameplay. But reloading from sporadic quicksaves gets pretty annoying due to repeating the same area over and over. The ending is crap because I didn't even get the satisfaction of seeing the explosions.

  10. Play It Later

Despite what other reviews said, I enjoyed this one.

Personally I didn't think it was too hard, but I can see why people think it is. I also thought the difficulty was at a very good level where the map was a little challenging but easily doable. Some nice fights which require a certain amount of skill and thought and overall it was fun. One downside was that the ending was too abrupt, like in Blood and Bones.

Overall you should play it, but only when you have the time.

    Maybe?

This map was ridiculously hard and that's the only reason I finished it.

The level design was very basic with little in the way of detailed environments. Most of the areas didn't have logical transitions between environments, either.

However, I did enjoy some of the strategic elements in the map, such as using mobile cover to creep up to gun emplacements. I also thought it was good that you could approach most of the enemy encounters in such a way that you could engage one enemy at a time and most of the time you could deal a quick death blow without losing too much health. Considering the extra difficulty, it really made me about think the encounters a little more.

Overall, I thought the use of strategy in the map was interesting and the combat was refreshingly tough but the level design and detailing really let it down.

I would say give this one a go if you enjoy hard combat but if you get frustrated by dying in the same spot over and over, then you probably should skip this one.

  12. Maybe?

I almost give this one 3 stars out of respect for the author having a new idea than anything else. I can't say I really enjoyed this one much, but hell, at least it's a different experience.

Design is decent, there really isn't much to say on that front. There a quite a few outside areas, but most of them are quite basic. There's nothing bad about the design, but there's nothing noteworthy either.

Which brings us on to the unique gameplay… basically, due to a new config file all of your weapons do much more damage, BUT the same goes for the grunts. Well, and the turrets, you see a few of those as well, but that's about it for enemy variety. However, due to this new system, you'll need to use tactics, as one head shot can kill you no matter how much health you have. You only get the "realistic" weapons, but they're good enough. There's a coulple of memorable sequences, too, like pushing crates around to avoid a grunt-manned turret and using one of your own to take out a group of them rapelling from the sky (out of thin air, for some reason!). It can be frustrating practically having a one-hit-one-kill system, but overall it's pretty decent.

Not much else I can say, again. This'll take about 15 minutes, it being one map and it's a shame this concept wasn't turned into something longer. Oh well, it's fun enough for that period, so you should give this one a go.

    Think Twice

Old map with a few good ideas but more flaws than features.
It starts at night, outside, and you need to get into an facility where a new jet prototype is held.
Your mission is to destroy it.

    Pro's:
-Some good mapping, but really nothing special
    -Tough combat
    -Useable turret

    Con's:
-Balancing, way too hard (used the included real.cfg)
    -Very short playtime
    -Odd design sometimes (100 tripmines??)
    -Sudden end
    -Less variation in combat
-Mean enemy / turret placement (yeah yeah, I know..)

  14. Ten Four Reviews

    2nd August 2012

I will credit Mr. Jones for creating a gamplay experience that's different; but differance is not always good.

Consider this: You charge into battle with your guns-a-blazin" and boom! Before you can get off a few rounds, you're shot in the head and your screen tilts sideways. Yep, whether there was any inspiration from the N64 Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, head shots will be a bitch in this one :)

Still not catching on? Well, there's a new config file in here, you see, that changes weapon damages etc. and one of the most prominent changes is that head shots are now worth 10 times the regular damage, instead of 3 in the original Half-Life. The author said he went for more realism and strategy here and I have to agree it worked to some extent. Unfortuantely, I don't think everyone will like the changes.

    Maybe?

There’s not a lot to say about this map. It’s a short hard as heck gruntfest with a mediocre environment and a ridiculous ending. If you want to kill some grunts, then this is for you.
