This is a great little mappack. The author is clearly improving and I hope he creates something for Ep2 soon. The maps have a simple story of escape which leads the player through a variety of environments. I encounter no bugs but I was missing one texture right at the end, not a problem really. In fact it may have been my fault.
It’s nice to see the inclusion of Alyx and an Advisor, and their were enough enemies to keep me guessing.
All in all a very competent collection of maps and I am curious to see how PP readers feel about this.

Apart from the fact that I found this quite a challenge, especially as there are a couple of more or less impossible jumps to make, and some seriously heavy duty combat here & there, this is brilliant and thoroughly deserves a PIN!

This one was seriously bugged for me, forcing me to noclip three times in the first map, and it CTD on the map change to level 2.

I would like to play it but cannot. Followed Phillip’s instructions to the letter but no go
15 February 2009 at 6:48 pm
What happens when you open the console and type amp…etc?
15 February 2009 at 6:50 pm
Bummer, I wonder what’s wrong. Shall I send some saves in case that works for you?
15 February 2009 at 7:01 pm
Clever I’m not but I do know how to use the Console. I have many times with no problem.
I did this:
Copied the episodic folder into half-life 2 episode one\episodic folder.
Copied the hl2 folder into half-life 2 episode one\hl2 folder.
Launched Half-Life 2: Episode One
Opened the console and typed map sentenced_to_death_01.
clicked the Submit button.
Message in console – no such map.
Maybe I’m thick

I wasn’t suggesting otherwise but the information you provided doesn’t help me help you.
Without sounding rude, if the map is not found then you haven’t copied them correctly. When you type map sen does the console autofinish the map name?

Here is a link that you can unzip the file and put it in the source mods folder.Should work ok.Sorry about the file name, filefront shortened it.

If you have problems with installation, I recommend to read file “Вложения.txt”, it can help you.

Great little map.I confused myself at times but as its Sunday and I’m not fully awake I’ll live with it.Was really nice to see alyx in the mod.Wish more mods included her.
15 February 2009 at 8:27 pm
I had the same problem of the map not showing up in the console.
What I did, is I copied ‘the contents only’ of the folder episodic and hl2 into their respective places and it worked fine.
Very good maps, a little hard but fun to play. I enjoyed Alyx & friends showing up!
Keep up the good work!

Great map pack. Intense fighting in places so a little strategy required.
My thanks to andyb for turning the maps into a SourceMod.
If you have trouble with Phillip’s instructions find andyb’s link to fileplanet (comment 9)

The game started out slow and nothing really impressive , but it soon picked up. The author spent some time with this one and it has a storyline to it. But, once again, i was told to “defend Alyx” ( I’m not a big fan protecting someone else when it’s hard to defend my own self !) never the less, it’s a so,so puzzling map with intense fire fighting, go for it you like defending others while your in the mist of intense gun battles.. In the end, it didn’t really do anything for me…

I am not too sure about this one. Whilst it starts off with an admirable scripted piece resulting in a very dramatic ‘in the nick of time’ rescue sequence, I don’t however think the maps aspire to any other heights of gameplay or story telling. The interplay with Aylx is disjointed and I was left pondering at times, what next? Just did not seem to be enough script from her to make progress flow, and I think that may well be my major concern with these maps, the whole experience felt sluggish.
I needed to cheat a few times with frustrating jumps that I have no patience with, at least one set up of Combine and Turret-guns proving impossible to pass, plus a couple of noclips just to see where the hell next. I could not find any constructed or meaningful ending to these maps with the final level appearing to go nowhere and without gameplay, but maybe I got something wrong, or more likely another unfinished piece of work.
I tried hard with this one, playing through 3 times to establish whether I was being fair in my judgment, however, each time I came to much the same conclusion, so if you don’t mind playing through a few maps that will have you cheating in parts, confused at times and searching around for an ending, then give this one a try.

Okay, AtomicGamer sucks as a download… waited 5 minutes for a server to free up, and the stinkin’ thing “could’t find the file”. :wtf:

Bobz-I’m having the same problem getting this to load. Time to try brother Andys fix!
19 February 2009 at 9:09 am
Andy-Before I get started on this mod I just want to say thanks for making the easy installation on this. I tried 5 times to load this as instuctions read but for some reason it just would not show up in the console. So, just a word of thanks. Now-lets go kick some A!

Really good! I like this authors work alot. I actually had more fun playing this one today then I did with the much larger and higher rated Eye Of The Storm. Reason being that it made me work harder to figure out what to do and where to go next. It has the type of puzzles I thought Eye would have as it’s a spinoff of Ravenholm. But this one had alot of good action and it was really nice to work along side and especially behind the very fine Alyx again. She has a way of making me try harder to make it through overwhelming odds. I think every big battle needs an Aleyx for troup moral!. This is a really well put together mod that has all the ingredients needed to keep any player happy. Well worth downloading asap.

I can’t seem to pick up the light power. The light command isn’t working.
Thanks

Strange, because it works for me. Sorry about that.
I am sorry, I don’t understand. Can you explain a little more please.

very clever. it has been distinguished from other “escape” mods, where the voice from the hl2 are well used. nice job.

This was excellent, good mapping, quite challenging. Definite thumbs-up.

That’s a really well put-together piece. Very nice construction and gameplay. Gangs of fun; I almost lost my leather controls, Minn, on the scaffolding.

Forgot to say how well the audio was used to such good effect, and especially the sardonic laughter. And of course the constant reminder of those Mutant Jellied Eels from the 7th Dimension. Which makes me wonder how Valve is going to handle that theme in Episode Three. I assume they’ll play a major role, especially since vengeance has to be exacted upon them in the matter of what they did to Eli – so I’d be very surprised if they’d didn’t loom large in Ep 3. But killing them off is another matter entirely…looking forward to finding out about that.

Great mod! Small, but very interesting!!!
24 July 2009 at 11:51 pm
I recently replayed this mod, and it’s still fun! I’m not sure all of the battles are even winnable on “normal” but a few extra healthkits kept me moving forward. Overall, its not quite Valve level, but this is a capable missing chapter in the rise of Gordon Freeman.

Quite nice mod, I enjoyed the intro and how the way out of the prison was designed. Also it was cool to see some advisors again and the battles were also well.
I only hated one specific area and that was the area in the canalisation with the concrete tower in the middle where a gun is mounted, because when you go up the ladder, suddenly many enemies are there with two automatic guns, out of nowhere.
Except of that small bad part is quite amusing and short, download it when you have some time.
