This was the first entry for my DM2SP competition. It re-converts the DM_Lockdown map back into an SP map.
However, it adds a small group of rebels to rescue and escape via a helicopter.
There’s even a simple puzzle to drop the forcefield.
- Title: SP Lockdown
- File Name: hl2-sp-dm2sp-lockdown.rar
- Size : 2.44Mb
- Author: Da Fat Cat
- Date Released: 03 August 2009
I started with dm_lockdown partly because it was a good DM map to make into a linear one, and partly because it is the only one I had decompiled. The only major change, besides knocking down some walls and adding new ones, was the finale. Players must fuel up a helicopter while fighting off a horde of Combine soldiers.
The biggest challenge was time. Due to my vacation plans, I only had a small amount of time to complete this project. I think it could’ve been a lot better if I had more time- I could’ve made it a bit longer, and used the vorigaunt slaves as enemies. Unfortunately, the game crashes when the player kills a vortigaunt, and I didn’t have time to resolve this problem.

Since this is a conversion from a Valve map I won’t be using the normal review format.
Many may assume that since this is re-converted from an SP level that playing this isn’t worth it. The difference bwteen the original and this version is that Da Fat Cat has only used some of the original section and also added a puzzle and mini-objective.
It works quite well but it’s clear that the additional section is exactly that additional, because it lakcs the detail of the other parts.
That said it was quite fun to play but being quite short and set in a prison it’s hard to get too excited by it.
Play it if you are curious what he author has modified or you play almost everything.
okay, but not really great.

It’s very good of DaFatCat to give this whirl and thank you for that.
Very enjoyable and loads of combat!
Great final battle which I barely survived.
But for the brevity and a very familiar scene for the most part, this would be a PIN. Any HL2 combat fan must play this.

You should have said in the description that I did this in about 8 hours, most of which was configuring the getting up sequence at the beginning.
I misread the due date ok?

I forgot to add that the added on finale took me an hour and a half (again I misread the due date by a month D: ) to make, the arena, the helicopter system, and the shittily done “boss” battle.
If you put it into perspective, it doesn’t seem as bad

Da Fat Cat did a really wonderful job converting this map. There are some things that are wrong, but I’m sure if he continues this project, it can turn into something really swell.

Never played that map in mp, so I can just talk what I felt while playing.
The combat is starting quickly and also developes quickly, already in the first room ion cannon.
The last fight is well too.
Everything is okay but nothing more, it’s just a quick short map you play and forget about soon.

Short but sweet, like this review. I would’ve liked to have seen more of the the prison section, but if that’s what he had to work with, then it’s hardly his fault!

This could almost be a PIL, mostly because I was dreading that an antlion guard was going to show up near the beginning.
The combat was better near the beginning. The combat at the end was almost too easy, since the Combine were pretty bunched together (and I was off to the side so the squad took most of the initial damage).
But it’s worth playing, if very short.
