Author’s Note: Three-Legged Terror occurs as a side story during the events of Half-Life 2:Episode 2. The player assumes the role of a basic Resistance member, hidden away in an isolated mountain base with a small team of soldiers. This base is discovered by the Combine, who send a Strider to destroy the base. Gameplay revolves weakening and damaging the Strider throughout the map as it ascends the mountain trail, giving your NPC allies time to fix weapons and provide aid. The idea was inspired by Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, in particular the Lao-Shan Lung and Shen Gaoren fights. All three maps, mine and Monster Hunter’s, feature a massive enemy that must be weakened and defeated before it destroys the player’s base.

Well, here it is. The entries from the CrossbowVille mapping Competition.

The objective was to create an interesting release that used the Crossbow as the main weapon.

The mod contains 3 entries, with varying styles.

You start in an empty building and soon find yourself in a city.

Explore and find Barney.

Where would you be without Barney? That Beer Buddy just keeps coming to your rescue.

You start in a calm city square, but things turn a little more action packed within a few moments.

Listen to Barney, he knows what to do.

You find yourself in what looks like a prison but it’s much more industrial than most. Clearly you need to escape and that is easier said than done.

You get to leave the prison and feel the fresh air on your face but not for too long. Keep the faith as you will eventually see the light of day again, but you might wish you hadn’t.

Overheid tells the story of Chris Winfield, a new recruit in humanity’s fight against the Combine.

The story unfolds across multiple locations, from the fringes of society to the very heart of the Combine beast.

You are sent to a base on Mars and have to fight the Combine.

Eli and Alyx help you and Dr. Kleiner appears at the end to teleport you out of harms way.

Looks like a crate cemetery, with lots of containers lying around, full of ammo and health. Get ready to fight a Strider, Gunship, numerous choppers and plenty of soldiers.

Only the strong or crazy will survive!

Starting in a prison cell, you need to make you way to the surface.

Once there, things get a little more interesting, in fact, your whole world is about to change.

Combine Mountain Complex is a fun and challenging first release.

After waking up in the rubbish, you realize you need to get across to the other side of town.

Apparently a plane awaits you that can take you to safety.

Work your way through the sreets and even some sewers, join with a few rebels and get to that plane!

Starting in a very large walled area, you need to get the buggy.

Once over the wall you find a lot of Metrocops and a Strider.

Can you reach the end and kill them all?

CSS SCI FI 3: Hardwired is a single-player modification for Half-Life 2. Waking up to find himself an augmented clone of Gordon Freeman, the player must fight time-travelling Combine forces and other enemies across 42 unique and replayable missions.

Missions are set in 18 retail and 24 custom Counter-Strike: Source maps, which are installed intact to the player’s CS:S game folder. The mod edits the entity data for each map as it is loaded, adding and modifying entities to create a seamless single-player experience. The maps remain unchanged and are fully playable in Counter-Strike: Source. Maps have been contributed by established designers, including Bluestrike, Schuzak and d00ds.com. Combat locations range from a snow-covered country church to a dense pine forest to a sun-baked tropical island.

Starting in a room, you have no idea what is about to happen!

Get on the walkway and all hell breaks loose. Even with plenty of rebels to help you it’s hard to survive.

Provenance is a short singleplayer mod for Half-Life 2 where the player explores a section of the lab (known as Sector B) as Gordon Freeman. It’s purpose is more of a portfolio mod.

So says the author. I just wish all portfolio pieces were this good!

Gordon arrives on a single carriage to provide support for daring resistance operation in City 12.

You objective is to lure a Strider into the open so that it can be destroyed and studied.

Of course, the Combine have other ideas. With a few rebels you set out to try.

Are you brave enough to explore the G-Man’s mansion? In this slightly scary mod you have to work your way through a mansion looking for keys and fighting enemies. Expect some surprises and maybe a few hidden items.

Play in the dark with the lights out to get the best effect. Unless you are too scared. Want me to call your mommy?
