Communication with a laboratory has been lost and you and a small group of rebels have been sent to find out why.
This is an old map but I have updated the post to conatin screenshots and some important information reagrding playing the map.
I have renamed the bsp file within the compressed file because the addition of a point in the filename stops it from working with the current version of Steam. I have also removed the screenshots from the original compressed file.
Lastly, the instruction in the readme are wrong. I have not changed these because I never edit a readme file created by an author. Please see the instructions below for the correct way to install and run this map.
- Title: The Laboratory
- File Name: hl2-sp-the-laboratory-1.2.rar
- Size : 791.18 Kb
- Author: Baluba
- Date Released: 25 April 2005
- Copy the-laboratory-1-2.bsp into your Half-Life 2 Maps folder.
- Launch Half-Life 2
- Open the console and type map the-laboratory-1-2.bsp.
- Press enter/return or click the Submit button.
- Play and Enjoy.

A typical first map no objective (except to kill the baddies) the entired laboratory is squared in an unascessible squared valley. Design is pretty basic like the experience!

I can’t get this mod to load despite following your instructions in the “readme.txt”. Any ideas why?

I have updated the post to include screenshots and links to a new compressed file.
The reason it didn’t work with the author’s (Not my!) instructions was because of the point in the filename. Just rename the file to whatever you want, I just removed the point after the 1 and then try again with the new filename. It worked for me. Good luck.

I played this to update the post and at the beginning the frame rate is really bad but oince inside it’s fine. It’s not a great map and as the commenter said in comment number 1 it’s a typical first map.
I nearly missed the upper levels and I couldn’t find the rocket Luancher, although I found the ammo. I think I must have blasted it somewhere.
Anyway, it’s not the best map you’ll play this month, so only play it if you play everything.

The Game? Half-Life 10. Binary jokes ahoy!
The Mod? The Laboratory
The Author? Baluba
Is it Good? Depends if you like lag and boxes.
Give Us A Story There, Bub: The horrors of war is brought to the world. The two sides; The Confederation Of Antlions and the Zombie Armada. The area; Fort Renaldi, home to the latest in anti-donut research. The Antlions form the most massive army the world has ever seen! So much so that reality’s frames per second tears apon merely comprehending the massiveness of the Antlion Army. The Zombies hold the base, waiting reinforcement from Zombie Joe’s elite Fast Zombie Regiment. The siege has begun!
Meanwhile, Gordon Freeman plans with his human shields on making a move on the laboratory. On person perks up, questioning the reason for using persons as shields for Antlion attack, only to be silenced by peer pressure. The plan is put into motion, Gordon prepares himself for battle with a final longing stare into Dog’s eyes…
Meanwhile, GMan stands on the top of the building ominously, in order to record the battle for footage for the 2022 version of the History Channel.
Translation: There is no story.
Go ahead, make my lunch: It’s very easy to describe this map in two ways: cube-bases and conspicuous collections of same-type enemies. That’s really all you get from this map, and yet, this map is funner then it should be. Bypass the first Antlion fight and most of the map can serve you well for a few minutes. Unfortunately, the fact that you need to justify something in order to make the map fun is an inherent beacon of how bad it is. It’s basic, has no point, laggy, boxy and annoying. It’s only saving grace is that the base rooms serve their purpose suitable enough not to annoy you and the chance to throw your stupid allies into barnacles.
In Other Words…: Don’t play it unless you like seeing first maps. Fortunately, this map will last you longer then it took you to download it and you might even get some enjoyment out of it.

Damm what a jerky map. 10fps 90% of the time, I have a headache.
A very boring map that was very basic.

I’m not going to say Avoid it (obviously). I only get lag like that when the mapper puts in 200-gazillion enemies. As soon as the enemies are killed, the framerate is fine (and at least it didn’t crash on me with so many antlions).
Finally got the crowbar when I didn’t need or want it anymore.
With the RPG, I expected a gunship or something to be triggered, but it didn’t.
Anyway, it’s something to do, for the people who want to play (almost) everything.
