Recommendation Images Guide
The Recommendation System is an attempt to provide a visual representation of a comment/opinion.
The system consists of five levels; Play It Now, Play It Later, Consider It, Think Twice and Avoid It! plus a Too Buggy! for maps and mods that crash.
The system is available for every reader to use i.e. you don’t have to be a registered user, although if the system is abused then I may restrict it to members only.
Recommendation Images are NOT to be seen as a replacement for commenting. Recommendation images with no comment will be deleted. You MUST explain your reasons or at least give your opinion.
Luke from HybridLogic was kind enough to write a short Javascript for adding the graphics to comments. It can be found directly below the comment text area. You simply need to click the text to make your recommendation. If you have trouble due to an older browser or you have turned off Javascript you can use the code/text in this post to copy and paste it into any map or mod.
This system gives the reader and reviewer five simple choices. Often a potential player needs to know exactly what other readers recommend. This system will hopefully make life easier for people looking to know whether they should play the map or mod in question.
I personally dislike system that try to be too accurate. How can you honestly rate something 85/100? How do you define the difference bewteen 84 and 86? I don’t believe it’s possible. With my system readers can see everything they need to know. Would you play a map or mod, or game even, if it was scorred 85/100? Probably but what about 84, 86 etc? Probably as well and that’s all you need to know.
- Only one image should be insert into to a comment.
- please insert the image first and then type any comment you have.
- Recommendation images with no comment will be deleted.
- Only insert an image AFTER you have finished playing the map or mod.
- DO NOT use Avoid It! for maps and mods that crash etc, only for mods that are not fun to play.
The Play It Now! image should be used for maps and mods that you believe are worth the time and effort to download and play. They don’t have to be large, multi-map mods, they can be one-map efforts too.
The Play It Later image should be used for maps and mods that you believe are very good and should be played by everyone. However, this map or mod is not good enough to stop what you are doing to play it. It should be played when you have time, rather than making time for it.
The Consider It image should be used for maps and mods that you believe could be enjoyed by some players depending on the gameplay. Careful consideration should be given to the description, screenshots and other reviews.
The Think Twice image should be used for maps and mods that you believe only serious SP HL fans will enjoy. Perhaps this has very specialized gameplay or design. Perhaps it’s not that much fun to play but offers something interesting. This is not a map or mod for everybody and only serious students of SP maps should download and play it.
The Avoid It! image should be used for maps and mods that you believe are not worth the time and effort to play. This should have nothing to do with any bugs or problems, just purely the gameplay etc.
The too Buggy image should be used for maps and mods that constantly crash or have enough bugs that playing it is impossible. The map or mod may be great fun and beautifully designed but if you can’t play it then it’s too buggy.
The Recommendation system is currently only recommended for use with Maps and Mods. The reason for this is simple. All maps and mods are free and therefore there are no financial implications involved. A slightly different version will be made available for retail games in the near future.
Click the image directly under the comment text area to make your recommendation then write your comments or review as normal.
