This was a quite good release that I enjoy a lot playing when it came out
6th April 2008
I need to play this one again, I rated 6/10 and H16 rated 6.5/10 but I made no notes on the way it played, so bewhere.

Cannot believe it’s now 10 years old! But still, I like the perfect mix of puzzles & action.
Be careful, watch your step and check every corner before advancing!
You start outside of the island which is heavily conquered by soldiers, Freeman’s going in with no HEV or weapon to search for any survivors among his colleagues…
Yep, it’s true.. there’s no HEV and no crowbar at start, don’t worry, it starts with some puzzling anyway. What maybe can get a bit confusing (3 directions, where to go??) turns out pretty simple after you get to know the shape of the complex step by step. Here and there is lot of resistance by quite many grunts, later aliens too. To me it was perfect balanced, both, the mix of combat and puzzles and the combat itself, rarely seen such great balancing! (Although you might think there is plenty of health and HEV batteries, but you’ll need ‘em!)
The playtime is also not bad, it takes quite some time to solve the puzzles and to get in touch with another large group of soldiers…
Pro’s:
-Superior balancing (combat), also very nice mix of puzzles and action
-Therefore excellent combat action, you won’t regret it! Lot of weapons (incl. rocket launcher, crossbow,..)
-Decent mapping, some good lighting, architecture (way higher than average first maps)
-Some good puzzles, not that obvious sometimes – great!
-Quite good atmosphere
-No matter what the readme says, I encountered no bugs
Con’s:
-No HEV at start, there is combat before getting it! (or did I miss something?)
-Quite short playtime (if you played it already)
-Some boring looking areas
-Some may say combat is too tough, play on easy then^
-Neglectable story
