“This is the extended version of the first community released DOOM 3 map, Trite Breeding Facility. I have added a whole new section to the D-Sector which was a door that was just there for the sake of making the facility look larger. Now you can explore this area, which also extends the gameplay to somewhen between 45′ ~ 1hr depending on your gaming skills. Also, if you are curious as to what my current venture is in modding, look for a secret within the level … “

Doom Wad Station Syndicated Review

Overall Rating: 7
Being as this is the very first complete map for Doom3 realeased on the internet, we are still in the beginning stages of what promises to be another exciting 10 years of user created levels. You should enjoy this one. Instructions on loading are in the text file that comes with the map!

Difficulty Rating: :7
To keep it short and sweet, this level is fairly hard, but shouldn’t give anybody too much trouble. It’s just perfect enough to keep you engaged, but it isn’t frustrating.

Playability Rating: 6
If Doom 3 was mostly about getting you to fall back in your seat, then Trite Breeding Facility is all about gluing you to the screen. The enemy’s come fast and hard, ambushing you from multiple directions often. The layout of the level is basically linear, except for some short back tracks to locked doors, etc. Other than that however there isn’t anything too outstanding or worth mentioning. It’s a simple run and gun mission, but still fun.

Level Design Rating: 8
Trite Breeding Facility is of great design. The architecture holds up to the theme and scale of Doom 3, and will probably remind you in a few points of classic Doom or Quake with its open areas and larger battles. The level has a nice amount of scripting as well, for example, Sarge’s voice clips have been displaced to give the player some sense of mission, and there are some well done computer terminals. Darkness is put to good use, but over all, this map has a higher light level then Doom 3. Easily the most notable part of the map’s design is the broken glass across the floors, guaranteed to surprise you at first. However the map suffers from what some say Doom 3 itself did: repetition. Any given part of the level uses just about the same textures as the rest of it, but in my own opinion this is part of Doom 3’s style, so no huge points can be held against this flaw. In the end, TBF is quite presentable.

Just started this one but after half an our i’m stuck just after the start you have to progress from the upper deck to one of the vent (1) make your way and after some good challenging you will reach a kind of arena with to energy pillar to active after killing some kind of boss after i don’t know what to do…

found what to do after a good noght…just shoot the two pillars. This i a good release with a good mix between great architecture and well balanced fight in a mix of forward and backward sadly it misses a good senario through pda for example whish would make this release perfect.

Review:
For this mission you are send by a teleporter to a place where once more some scientifical experiment went wrong. You are send to the place to see if there is still something that could be done to clean the place.

Design is in this one a great surprise, All the area you will explore are massively created but never too repetitive (most great arena you will enter have quite the same feeling comparison between schreenshot), it’s really a flash in the eyes how great it was put together. You are going to travell in a well organize way through the facility (from center place to vent 1 then get back to center place to go in vent 2 end after getting back to the main area for the boss fight before escape) progression is so linear but not in a linear way (forward-backward) if you know what i mean.

Gameplay is quite on the upper ranking providing weapons and ammo in the good place and not with overall profusion (health supplies goes in the same way) enemies placement is quite logic but also oldscholl (hard attack from different directions at the same time) and create an experience where too fast saving isn’t the good solution. the whole experience is perfectly balanced and increase the gaming time without any frustration. there is no bug except perhaps the pain it takes to access vents (jump-crouch-forward…).

Ambiance is perhaps the only thing which disappoints me a little in this release, there is nearly no scenario that support you progression (through PDA for example) you are sometime in connection with you radio but for one of the place it seems quite interesting (control room with spider queen) the environment sound masked nearly all the conversation, most traps are way to predictible and not enough trilling (except the short attack moment after destroying the two cores) . Ambiance sound, lights effect and power failure trick could have certainly add something in this way.

Conclusion:
This release is a great piece of artwork quite atmospheric that just missed a small attention to general mission and ambiance to create perhaps a map part of the top 3 best DOOM3 release… it is still without no doubt part of my top 10 D3 map!
