Half-Life 1 has some primitive mapping. Although Valve was pretty good at pulling it off, the inability to place models as brush entities, as well as the "boxed-in" nature of the maps, really detracts from the realism. Now, Half-Life 2 mapping was pure art, simple as that.

This is a must play for any Half-Life fan. This is a nigh perfect recreation of the original Demo for Half-Life that Valve made, except 100x better since it has none of the limitations that the original demo had:
- This mod can play on any screen resolution that Half-Life can. I don't think HL:demo was even able to get above 640x480 resolution, and had no support for widescreen ratio.

- This mod has the improved keybinding of HL that allows the use of a gamepad, as well as mice with more than 3 buttons. HL:demo didn't have any gamepad support that I could find, nor did it even have support for a 5 button mouse

- This mod allows for the High Def model pack. No longer must Barney look like a ghoul.

- This mod actually extends the mod a little PAST the Gargantuan at the end of the HL:demo, which in my memory just left you hanging as it faded to black while the garg started to come in to kill you.

All in all, you get all of the original goodness that Valve provided, but revamped to stay up to date and relevant.

Gameplay:
Very solid and balanced throughout the remains an enjoyable experience. Since the map is a remake of the original, Half Life: Uplink, the flow is very similar. Cut scenes are very well made, with some realistic touches such as Barney pulling out his handgun as the elevator doors open, and the recreated lab destruction involving the Garg. Enough action throughout, plenty of ammo and health supplies. The story and objectives are also the same as the demo but this time a little bit better, with a small extra part after the Garg scene.

Design:
Like the gameplay, very solid. Everything is structured well without causing any slow downs or errors while looking detailed. Textures are aligned perfectly with some great choices that mix well. Areas are also large enough for battle with some cover here and there which is good. It recreates the look of the demo well and captures the atmosphere while expanding on it making it that much better. No complaints about the lighting as it is moderate and used well, with other small effects. One major thing that was really good were the small details of pipes behind panels and even the working mechanics on the elevator as it comes up at the end, good eye candy.

Author's Notes
This map is best played without the HD pack that came with Blue Shift and there are a few bugs in the map as well, which will be fixed in the upcoming update.

Conclusion:
Recreates Uplink very well, fantastic design and some balanced gameplay.

Rating: 94%

Thanks people. :)

@ Luke: I don't really meen that Valves mapping is bad, it just looks unfinished in most cases. My goal was to get everything perfectly alligned.

And there surely are some major differences! Trust me. If you have'nt played the original Uplink, you would'nt know what the differences are... Take the garg scene for example, this part of the mod is heavely modified.

At this moment, im working on an update which fixes some major bugs and some tweaks here and there. When its out, be sure to play it again. :)

it took me 40 minutes to complete...like other i don't remenber and i thaught also that it was hugher (back then, like a lot of people, this was my first add-on i played for HL and it took me 2 hours) it the mean time this new rebuild was fun to play through (like the original) and is certainly recommanded. For fan of Duke nukem there is also a remake of it called MP suspicious storage

I agree with andyb, it did seem a bit short, just over an hour I think, but maybe we've just got quicker at HL...? I couldn't see any significant differences until you get to the end where you meet the Garg, and then ....there's a bit more, and then it ends.

Pity, have always wondered where it could have gone. I hope the author picks it up again, or that someone else with "mapping ability" does.

Still is a reminder how ground-breaking HL was way back then.....

How can they say that?! Valve’s mapping is some of the best in the industry I feel, beautifully done and well executed. Downloading now.
