Weapon Gameplay Modifications

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half Life 1, 2 and 3
Introduction

It’s happened to me many times before but yesterday it really annoyed me. Put simply I wasn’t smart enough to save some bullets for a particular gun. My fault you say, I agree but here’s what I want…..

I want a gameplay mod that allows me to always keep one bullet or round for every weapon I have collected. Why would I want to do that? Because in this case I wanted the scope from the sniper rifle. Why is it that if I don’t have any bullets I can’t even use the scope? If this were a real situation I would be able to! The least they could do is offer some binoculars!

This got me thinking about other types of weapon and gameplay mods that I want. So, here is my list:

  • A projectile weapon that uses almost anything small as the projectile and also doesn’t need any power. The Dispersion pistol in Unreal was useful if you have nothing else because it always recharged but I’m thinking more like a special catapult that fires very small items, perhaps even poisoned ball bearings. Some kind of very strong winding system that ensures the projectile is fired at a very high speed. One of those in the face would be very painful.
  • A mod that changes the amount of rounds in your weapon depending on the difficulty setting. For example if you play of Easy then you have 48 bulllets in you weapon, medium gives you 24 and Hardgives you 12, or something along those lines. In fact this idea is very similar to Replayability and Difficulty Settings.
  • To be able to use it as a normal physics object. For example I could drop it on the floor to make it stop a door from closing. Of course this would really need to be built into the gameplay from the game’s conception but perhaps there are other uses – hitting enemies etc.
  • To be able to lean against a wall and make handguns more accurate.
What about you?

Do you have any weapon’s related gameplay mods or ideas? What about ones that have been made that you feel deserve more attention. The Doom 3 torch mod is a good example. I also think it’s a good example of bad design. I find it really hard to believe that not being able to use your torch (Flashlight) at the same time as aiming a weapon passed through beta testing. Does anybody know the history of that?
