Who Shall I Interview - Have Your Say

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Introduction

I would like to interview a few more people connected with SP FPS maps and mods and would liek to know who you would like me to interview? They have to be from the gaming community, not the retail game world, because I’m not big enough to get those kinds of interviews, so don’t bother asking for CliffyB or Gabe!

Maybe there is a mapper or mod team that you think is really interesting. If so, just comment on this post and I’ll contact them. Perhasp you are a leader of a mod that has been released and what some extra publicity, if so just comment.

I can’t guarantee to get every interview requested because not everybody wants to be interviewed but I will do my best.

A fan of Duke Nukem … Mikko for all the contribution he did for the time I virtually know him is certainly a good idea

Neil Manke? Probably hard to get ahold of now though.

Koumei Satou! Peaces like Us, Sweet HL, and Mistake of Pythagoras. Great portfolio. Strange but fantastic storyteller.

Adam Foster is a good idea, although I have some doubts as to whether he would agree. I’ll ask though.

I agree that Neil Manke may be too hard to reach for a site like PP. Again, it can’t hurt to ask.

Koumei Satou is a good idea. I’ll email him this week.

Lots of great FPS works for Half-Life, Doom, Quake… Even stand-alones and a AGS adventure game.

I find all of his games brilliant. Great combination of gameplay and (the most important for me) story.

I would really like to know more about him.

Threewave http://www.threewavesoftware.com/ is a commercial developer now, but they were a great mod developer in the days of Quake1 through Quake 3 Arena. There was a dedicated active community arround the Threewave CTF mod for Q3 (they united with the older Classic CTF mod and some other Q3 custom mappers/modders), but the old times seem all gone now. From looking at their website now, it´s kind of sad they don´t support their old mods anymore (back then there was a section about the mods for Q1, Q2 and Q3, and community message boards. All gone.). I would find it interesting what they think about it now, if it´s even an issue for them (I don´t blame them, I am just interested in how they are looking at it). Maybe they have just as much fun developing commercial addons now, but they had an dedicated community supporting them, don´t they miss this time?

Perhaps an interview with the Black Mesa team?

I also propose an interview with the author of the upcoming Experiment 04. (…And ask about those videos? This one’s got me interested.)

I also suggest Christine Schneider. An odd proposal, since I haven’t ACTUALLY gotten around to playing his System Shock 2 mods yet, but the sheer fact that he’s producing mods to this day using an old, fairly overlooked (Considering how it failed financially.) yet brilliant game (With such a minute modding community compared to that of - say - Half-Life.) justifies my interest in him.

Christine Schneider is a she. And she made six Mods for Thief 2 before she started mapping for
System Shock 2. (Both games share the same engine and leveleditor.)
BTW: The community is not that small,its simply
under the radar of the folks here. Thief/Thief2
mode are not even listed on this site.

And yes, I knew she mapped for Thief 1/2, I’ve actually visited her website.

Also, the reason I thought the mapping community for that engine was so small was that I’ve barely seen anything for either games. But there you go!
