Forest Train, Version 1.1 is now available. It was already a fantastic release and I am sure this update will make it even better.
If you would like to re-review it and change your recommendation image and or the Meta Review Data, that’s fine.
Please don’t post any reviews of the mod on this post as it will be deleted in a few weeks.
The changes are in this post and the release itself.

May! Yes, May! Can you believe it’s May already?
It’s starting to get warming and the days are definitely longer – at least where I live.
Can’t wait for Summer, can you?
Please use this post to talk about about anything you want to – except maps and mods, which should be done of the specific post, assuming there is one.

You play as “Franta Novák” and you work at nuclear waste storage facility.
They decided to illegally move the site into a forest and not long after strange things start to happen.
This is the day you get to work and the shit REALLY hits the fan!
The Combine are coming to destroy your generator.
Defend it at ALL costs. If it gets destroyed then the Resistance will suffer a huge setback.
Since you know they are coming, organize your supplies and defences carefully.
Here is beta version RC11, which addresses the Steampipe update.
I have tested this version and it worked correctly for me on a fresh install of Steam.
I will be using it all the time from now on to install and test maps and mods.
I am really hoping this one can be released and Alex and I can start planning the next update and what features we want to include.
RC stands for Release Candidate in case you were wondering.

What a beautiful day! Shame you’ve got nothing better to do than hang around monitoring the radio.
Well, today is your lucky day. You get a message to help some citizens reach White Forest.
Can you help them?
Only one way to find it!
I thought I would update you on the Mapping Competitions for 2014.
I won’t be running mapping competitions series for a while. Unless they are connected, there’s no real point. So for the foreseeable future, all competitions will be completely separate.
I don’t want to publish a yearly calendar of competitions and commit to something that’s too rigid. That said, I feel I need to give mappers some idea of the schedule to allow them to plan their work.
Therefore, I have decided to run between 4 and 6 mapping competitions in 2014. Most will be 11 days long, but I may try something longer at least once.
The prize will be either a $5 or $10 Steam game for each and I see this as a token prize, rather than something people enter for.
After each competition, I will do my best to create a podcast and chat with a few entrants. I will also encourage mappers to post regular updates of their work in the comments section of the competition announcement.
Mappers who do that will have the chance to join the podcast, even if their entry isn’t one of the best.
I may also try a text based Q&A with questions from PP readers.

This is the first mod in the 3×10 Mapping Competition Series.
Mapper were tasked with creating an ambush scene.
“The winning map will be the one that sets up the ambush in the best way, paying attention to the atmosphere, the surprise and the general gameplay. If a map sets up the ambush beautifully but is then boring to play, it won’t win.
Attention to detail is very important in this competition. I would much prefer smaller but highly polished maps than larger, less polished maps.”
Upon reaching the surface, a large group of Combine forces is seen travelling north towards White Forest with Advisors in tow.
Gordon must fight off the Antlion Guardian, along with an Antlion Guard and several of their smaller kin, before reaching the last Resistance outpost of the Victory Mine. There, they find that the settlement has been overrun by Headcrabs.

I have to admit that after every competition I say to myself “This is the last one” and this one is no different.
Perhaps I set my hopes too high and dream of ten entries for each competition – each one a really interesting interpretation of the theme.
